I was in Boston last week for an appointment for one of the specialists who I see once a year. I was told at the reception desk that he was twenty minutes behind schedule. No problem for me because when I go, I plan to be in the city all day, another patient came in after me and when told of the doctor being behind exclaimed in the waiting area that twenty years ago when he was a nobody she got better service. That was number 1.

Number two was after having my vitals checked and waiting in the examination room a woman came out of another room and began to complain that she was waiting fifteen minutes to see the doctor. A very nice nurse told her that the doctor was behind and that she would be seen shortly.

This particular doctor is renowned in his field and a gifted surgeon, next year's appointment is already booked because he's very busy. Since he is so good, he's worth the wait and he has a wonderful bedside manner too.

I opted to see the Nurse Practitioner since my test came out good and he had already reviwed my scan before reaching his office.

I do! How would the doctor or dentist like it if you called them by their first name instead of Doctor.

I'm not surprised. Some people have crazy expectations and think the world should revolve around them.

I am retired but work parttime in Customer Service at a grocery store. Most people are very nice. But these kind of patients/customers are very common. It doesn't matter their age. I see more rude people over age 50 than younger. Everybody wants something for nothing or a special exception. They want to negotiate the price of lettuce, cookies, alcohol, or think they are owed a discount because they shop there every week or two.

Hippa, smippa. Nastiness has just become the new normal, for a lot of people( and it's been like this for a long time, and getting worse) ,and they will use any excuse, to take their own problems ,and hateful personality ,out on anyone they can

I noticed that the employee who handles billing at one of the doctors I go to is now in the supply closet. She has a folding table with her phone and laptop on it.

They could at least get her a regular desk.

HIPPA is the law! Can be many problems if not enforced and consequences.

People can lose their jobs for violating HIPPA.

I like my privacy to some degree. People waiting in the lobby (or wherever) don't need to know my last name.

That nasty person could have easily said, I prefer to make my own appointment ,in the privacy of my home. She didn't . She knew that if the lady at the desk made the appointment ,she would have to use her name to register her

She waited until the woman made the call ,and then started screaming about it. It was just an excuse to berate some poor working person over nothing at all

I have made my own appointments, many times, for things, and it is always just fine. I can't stand people ,who just wait for an excuse to jump on some poor person, over nothing at all
