When my Kohls cash expired in the past, I tossed it.  I never would have attempted to use it.  However, I found out from reading this board that Kohls used to allow anyone to use expired cash, but stopped that practice.

The Kohl's in my area no longer take expired coupons or expired Kohl's Cash.

Some posters have posted the stores in their area do.

I remember Kohl's sending multiple notices that it is no longer store policy.

I thought I read here it's up to the individual stores?

Re: expired kohls cash

[ Edited ]

You could always ask if the manager will allow it, but the policy changed well over a year ago.  (Maybe two years ago?)

I was told by one store manager it was because some customers would save all their expired Kohl's Cash to use around the holidays, when all the big sales were on.  I'm sure that hit Kohl's bottom line.

Also, they used to allow you to return something that earned Kohl's Cash for a store credit (during the current event).  They stopped that because shoppers would buy something, return it for a credit during the promotion and then use it to buy something else and get more Kohl's Cash on it.  Shoppers were buying big ticket items like Dyson's, earning $90 Cash and then returning the item.

You can see how some people abusing the generous policies ruined it for every other honest customer.  There's always someone willing to "play the system".  Smiley Frustrated

This is from the Kohls website:

Can I use expired Kohl’s Cash?

Kohl’s Cash can only be used during the redemption dates for the promotion on which it was earned. It cannot be used before or after the redemption period printed on the coupon. Kohl's Cash is accepted at Kohls.com until 11:59PM Pacific Time on the last day of the advertised redemption date.

Color me confused, but I don't understand why anybody would feel entitled to use a coupon that is expired.

They put an expiration date on a coupon because that is the date after which it is expired.   Seems that speaks for itself.  I've had different coupons expire over the years and I just had to toss them, as that was on me.  I should have used them before they expired.

Years ago when I started shopping a new Kohl's in our area, I was given Kohl's cash.  At the time, I didn't realize what it was and tossed them when expired.  Then I found out that you could use them even if they were expired.  So I was throwing money away in the trash.  I could have used them for socks or something.  They did change the practice and my Kohl's no longer accepts them.  They should have done that in the first place.  Why would they put a date on them and accept them anyway?  It is no wonder that people can't follow the rules anymore.  Have a clear policy and stick with it.

@chickenbutt I so agree with your statement.   I will never understand why some people think that the rules don't apply to them.   When stores knuckle under to the squeaky wheel it makes want to boycott that store.
