eBay question for international purchase

If I purchase from someone in Europe, who pays the customs...buyer or seller?  I don't want to get hit with an unexpected cost.  The shipping is only $6.00.  I asked the seller about the customs & she just said the shipping is $6.00 USD

TIA!

you have to pay the customs, but to be honest, i have never had to pay customs fees when they arrived and i have received items from europe and china. it may depend how they label the package and form?

@sunshine45 So if I have to pay customs is it included in the price already?  Not an additional charge to be added on later?

@tipsy

it would be an additional charge added later on, but not by the seller.....by the usa and paid through your local post office. there are other scenarios also if it is not shipped via international postal service.

what i was saying is is that i have never had to pay any customs fees when the packages arrive.

if it isnt an expensive item, i would not worry about it. you can go on the website cbp.gov and look up internet purchases. some sellers even mark packages as a "gift." also be sure to check on the sellers ratings and remarks.

Re: eBay question for international purchase

Years ago I work for a company who had international customers.

When we sent our annual info binders the customs label was always marked "gift" to aovid import fees on either side.

I order from Euope on Ebay all the time and never have paid a customs fee.  But if the price is listed in a foreign currency instead of US Dollars, almost all credit card companies and Paypal, charge a foreign transaction fee.
