Hi, ShowMe! I've been a bit under the weather and haven't caught up with reading and posting. Now you've got me wondering what I suggested!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: dooBdoo......if you are still here, have something I would like for you to know......

When I had the sciatica a short time back, well you suggested I check into a TENS.....and I told you I would when I went to my doctor the next time.

Well, I just couldn't let this one pass me up. The other day.....either in an e-mail on the Q's Shopping On Line I saw where the Q was offering one of these.....it is battery operated.... So, I did order one.....please check out Item #V32681.....I thought it was a pretty good deal after seeing the cost when I googled the TENS......

When I was going through my separation back in the very early 90's, I was having so much nervous reactions and my back and shoulders were driving me crazy. A very good friend of mine happened to sell the TENS machines to chiropractors, sports doctors, and osteopaths.....he brought one over to me one evening and hooked me up......and oh my gosh, it did wonders for me. He did this many times to help get me through what I was going through. Then when I fell down the steps at my former apartment complex when someone put cat litter on icy steps, I had a lot of treatments done by a chiropractor, and they used that same kind of equipment on me.

Please let me know what you think of this piece of equipment......Thanking you in advance.

Thanks for the kind words!Smile Goodness, you've dealt with so much in your life. I hate hearing that, but you've certainly come out of it with a positive outlook and determination to do well.

I'm glad you're going to try out a TENS unit. I'm not qualified to tell you if this particular unit is the best one for your needs, however. I wouldn't know if the specifications are the same as those from professional medical supply sources.

As I mentioned, mine was prescribed by my physical therapist and my physician, so I'd strongly encourage you to check with yours to be sure. And although the devices do come with instructions, in my case I really benefited from my PT showing me the best way to use the unit and the electrodes. I wouldn't have known how to use it as effectively by reading the enclosed booklet. In my case they recommended the Rehabilicare ProMax, and I've been using the same one for almost 10 years! (I just realized how long it's been!{#emotions_dlg.scared})

After buying the unit, all that's needed are new electrode pads now and then, and those are easily found in local medical supply stores, some pharmacies, and online. For me, it's a great, non-invasive, "non-drug" way to help ease pain. I certainly wish you well and hope you'll let us know how you're doing.

Thanks dBd......I am sure your machine is much stronger than this little guy is, but for now, I think until I get to the doctor and see what he says about doing PT, this will help me. I kept thinking I go to him in May, but in checking my calendar, it is on 6/24.

I'm not hurting right now, so maybe this little dude will scare off the little pains......

I will certainly keep you updated.

And, here's hoping you get to feeling better.....

Re: dooBdoo......if you are still here, have something I would like for you to know......

ShowMe, hope you don't mind my posting on your thread. My chiropractor bought me an EMS unit, actually a portable one so that I can travel with it. Actually, when we go anywhere, we carry it with us in the car "just in case". It has the pads and I hook it up to my back when I am in pain and it works on a 9 volt battery. Ours has a small black box that hooks onto our pants and the intensity is controlled by the individual knobs on the box. It has been the most wonderful thing to help my back when I am having problems.

I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing another portable unit for my DH just in case we both need to use one for our backs.

They are not cheap by any means, but we were fortunate that our chiropractor only charged us his wholesale price. But then I've been going to him since 2000 and he's not only a doctor, but has become a great friend to both of us.

I wish you luck with yours and certainly they do help relieve the pain.

Sorry for 'butting' in on your thread, but wanted to add my experience.

HisElk......Oh my, the more the merrier.....no, I don't consider your coming on here as "butting" in. The only reason I did a shout out to dBd was because she suggested I talk with my doctor about this kind of thing. And when I saw this the other day, I figured it would only be a temporary thing until I get further word from my doctor in June. And right now, I am not being bothered with the sciatica.

They are wonderful machines.......and when I was hooked up to one, I got a lot of relief..... So, now all I can do is hope for temporary relief if and when it flares up again.

This unit doesn't look any larger than a remote control box...... If anything, I will have it to help in relaxation.

Hi ShowMe - I hope you don't mind my posting...I was intrigued about the TENS-like unit that you found on the Q! Having worked in Orthopedics for over 8 years, the Dr. used to order the TENS units for our patients and they had mostly positive results. I also worked in a Phys. Therapy department and the therapists used them in their treatments of the patients, with wonderful results. I know those units are expensive and it seems like the one on the Q may be a cost-effective solution for you. The review looked promising - I may have to buy one for myself, as I still have periodic nagging thoracic spine pain from a car accident 25 years ago...

I used a TENS unit---it works but it depends on your level of pain-----4 years after using that and other remedies, I resorted to surgery---J
