does anyone know anyone that has 'disappeared'?

one of my friends and i were talking about the execution of our mothers' wills and she was telling me that since her brother dropped out of sight in '95, his share of their mom's assets are being kept in an account until he is found...he has made it a point to remain hidden so she is rather in limbo. he is most definitely alive as he made a call when an uncle died, but when his mom died he didn't attempt any contact. do any of you have relatives that have disappeared? and if so, how many of you have tried to locate them and have done so successfully? how did you find them?
