All this moaning & groaning when the answer is

NOT to have Type 2 Diabetes in the first place.

Low Fat, Whole Foods, Plant Based diet.

People blame Pharma, Insurance, Doctors, Genetics...anyone

but themselves.  Something as simple, quick, easy, cheap & ethical?

Oh, yeah...that's right....'cuz changing your diet is too hard.

All the low carb stuff isn't working.

Double the price of Insulin for Type 2 Diabetics...then maybe

the General Public will hear the message for dietary changes.

CORRECT dietary changes.

Actually, "the low carb stuff" works really, really well.

"Correct" is in the eye of the beholder insofar as reputable medicine does not jibe with your idea of "correct."

Anyone who uses any diabetic medication to control their T2 diabetes

is still sick.   If they are using strips or monitors, you're still sick.

Change your diet & T2 is a thing of the past.

Re: diabetic drugs to soar in price

@geezerette states: In most states, insulin does not require a prescription (unless you want your insurance to cover it) so that alone would make a difference price-wise.

That is not true. Newer analog insulins such as Novolog, Humalog, Apidra, Lantus and Levemir all require a prescription in the US. These meds should be off patent and available in generic, but they are not, and even if they were, the cost will still be the same. These insulins perform more reliably than the older insulins. Also, in the US certain older insulins are no longer made.

You are right that Walmart does sell an insulin for around $25 a vial, but many (me included) cannot use that.

''I wonder how Dr. Mcdougal sleeps at night. He claims his goal for fasting blood sugars is 150 to 300. I wonder how many patients have unreported organ damage, amputations and hospitalization? He also claims tight diabetic control is unfounded and causes premature death based on flimsy, unproven studies. Pity the diabetic who listens to this snake oil medicine.

Re: diabetic drugs to soar in price

Yes, doctors can help.  What they can do is appeal to the insurance companies regarding a specific drug.   Yes, it is time consuming for the doctor, but it does work.  I am the benefits administrator where I work and I have had employees successfully get a drug paid for by the health insurance company that was not on the formulary.

We all have to be better consumers.   Tell the doctor if the drug is not covered by your insurance.   There are so many health plans that the doctors can't know what is covered by your health insurance.

Re: diabetic drugs to soar in price

It seems the insurance companies have lost so much money on the Obama care exchanges that they are  changing the formularies for rx drugs so they don't have to cover as much cost.
