Thanks again @Mindy D .

It's the one thing I don't like about the dashboard my employer contributes to---it contains presumptive. I can find my region's info through other stats they provide, but it's not simply laid out.

I also look at other states info (where I have either family or friends residing) and it seems that many states have different ways of reporting. I've never been a great "numbers" person, so this kind of stuff will make my head spin.

I appreciate you taking the time to share all that you do.

There is a difference between dying FROM the virus and dying WITH the virus. My nurse friend said that people who likely were doing to die anyway, due to other issues, who tested positive, are counted as dying from the virus. So I think the numbers are skewed.

@Puppy Lips, likely to die? If they were positive for the virus and died from complications, shouldn't that be counted as a Covid death, as opposed to their testing positive but falling off a ladder and dying?

Maybe @pitdakota can weigh in for us. :-)

@suzyQ3, ridiculous to say the least.  Anyone that dies, dies "from" something.  It is lay people termniology that someone died of old age.  Well they may be old, but their lungs either gave out & they contracted pneumonia, they had a stroke, they had kidney failure....you get the picture.  That is the cause of death.  And it is counted in the death rate reported for that county, state, etc.

Fact is, someone 100 years old that is living and ticking along just fine for being a 100 that contracts covid-19 and dies, dies from covid-19.  It is literally "elementary my dear Watson".  lol

Here @esmerelda  is something from Oxford - it's pretty much a massive highly scientifically sounding article that's saying we're in the middle of a pandemic, we can't give certainties.  But they have a couple of nifty charts that if you hover your cursor over it will give death percentages for different countries.  The US is at four and change.  I know Fauci also made some comment recently about 1% rate, so who knows.

https://ourworldindata.org/mortality-risk-covid

The thing is, I can look at all the deaths, elderly - increased risk, nursing home - increased risk, diabetes, high blood pressure, weight, etc and I can navigate through them like I'm a quarterback running for a touchdown, but I can't do that in any way, shape or form for rate of infection, which is high, but can be mitigated by individual behavior.  And if I get it, I'll start asking myself, am I old enough?  Am I fat enough?  Is my hospital overwhelmed?  They are talking about covid brain, lung damage, fatigue (I don't want to be a fatigue person) and all the other horrors.

It would all be so much easier if we could get past the not wearing a mask thing, which I actually think is happening.

Geez, do you people do anything else but talk about Covid19?

@esmerelda   We will probably never know...1 small example...car accident in my county, death certifiate read Covid as the cause.  The family made a big stink about it and the death certificate is supposed to be changed.  I have not heard if that has happened yet.

A friend in Florida says a friend of her has covid, and has tested positive several times since the initial diagnosis/positive test.  Every time she is tested, and it's positive (which has been 3 times now) it is reported as a positive case....but the three positives are coming from 1 person.  Something is fishy.

@Mom2Dogs I heard the exact opposite.  I saw the person who used to handle those statistics for Florida (she got fired).  A lot of health care workers are routinely tested.  All negatives are reported individually.  Positives are reported as one person.  That was just the example (and it's a good one) but that's why this woman was fired, and the irony was she was in charge of the statistics.  This is my recollection.

My state is not updating its numbers in any category on the covid site.  Also, when I try to get the current numbers from our local news they continue to add more to the total number of cases since day 1 without stating how many have recovered....you know why.  Also, there is no break down by county just two numbers for the entire state.  Total number since day 1 and total number of deaths since day 1.  When I go to the State by State tab of the covid site that provides a little bit more information but still does not paint the whole picture.  We should not have to "do the math." Just spit out the current and correct numbers - so hard for these partisan hacks.

Yes everyone dies of something. But the something might NOT be caused by the virus, even though they were positive. They could have it and not have any symptoms yet and die of an unrelated issue. Those deaths should NOT be counted as a virus death and I think some are.

I think I hear the sound of goalposts being moved again.
