beware: liquid nitrogen

i just read this and thought i'd pass along since i have seen tv chefs use liquid nitrogen from time to time:

Fans of the popular "Dragon’s Breath" snack, the treat infused with liquid nitrogen that allows you to blow smoke after eating it, should think twice before consuming the controversial food, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned on Thursday.

“The FDA has become aware of severe -- and in some cases, life-threatening -- injuries, such as damage to skin and internal organs caused by liquid nitrogen still present in the food or drink,” the agency said in a statement. “There has also been a report of difficulty breathing after inhaling the vapor released by liquid nitrogen when added immediately before consumption.”

Can't imagine being dumb enough to eat anything with liquild nitrogen in it. Why take such an unnecessary chance. Sounds like an offshot of the trend of vaping - also can't imagine why.

I remember a chain restaurant a few months ago ran adds for a drink where after they drank it they spewed smoke or gas or something!

I don't know if it was Chili's one of those chains. Anyone else remember seeing it?

In March, I had 2 early stage skin cancers treated on my hand. Due to the presence of squamous cells, I got the deep triple blast with liquid nitrogen.

2 weeks ago I had 12 more pre-cancers treated, again on my hands. Regardless of whether your treatment is a deep blast or a quick blast, liquid nitrogen burns into multiple layers of skin, and IT HURTS. I am no wuss, and my pain tolerance is high, but watching your skin get red and blister up from liquid nitrogen while feeling that intense burning pain in your hands, is pure torture.

That said, while I understand the curiosity in one of these desserts, common sense is going to tell me to be cautious eating something quick frozen by liquid nitrogen!

Decades ago, while conducting research in a science lab, I had to use liquid nitrogen. It was also used in electron microscopes to keep them at the proper temperature.

Having also worked in the chemistry lab to put myself through college, I have a very healthy respect for these things.

When I heard the latest about Dragon's Breath products, I couldn't believe anyone would be so completely idiotic. It baffles me that these products aren't banned.

I think that is what those little ball ice cream that they used to sell at the mall. And I bought some at the ice cream section at the store. Is that the same as what they had on the news ?

@Annabellethecat66 I'm in the metro-DC area and a restaurant called something like "Uncle Julio's" was advertising such a drink quite a bit on fv for awhile. I think they've now started advertising something else.
