Raven, the Grapevine scares the heck out of me coming down the grade into Oxnard. And that is on a GOOD day. Snow would terrify me!

I don't mind going UP so much. It is the coming down and everyone is flying. Funny, I can remember going across the desert on the way to Vegas with my mom, as a kid. Cars were always on the side of the road overheated. And the cars used to have a canvas bag on the front of the car to help cool the radiator. That was right after we traded in our covered wagon for a Model T Ford.

My Mom grew up in Blythe(sp) and has some tall tales about the weather, heat etc. She said they would hang their clothes to dry and the sand storms would blow thru and they had to shake out the sand to wear.

I have never seen a reason to pull off in Blythe. I bet she was glad to get out of there. Those sand storms are awful. You never know when one is coming out there. One time my mom's whole windshield got so pitted you could barely see out the window. It was awful. Had to have a new one ordered and put in.

P. S. Croemer. Yes snow. I don't know the altitude but the Grapevine is a high mountain pass and it isn't unusual for it to be shut down with snow. It is on the direct route to and from Los Angeles and highly traveled.
