moonandthestars, I figured the sparkler was Venus because it was so big and bright.

I had been reading about this too and of course! it was cloudy tonight.
I couldn't even see Venus or the moon.
But I do get to see Venus every clear
night. It is so beautiful and sparkling all the time.I never noticed it before until a few weeks ago.
And a few nights ago that sliver of a crescent moon was beautiful too.

Of course DH has always been interested in science, but more having to do with animal science. DS grew up also interested in science, but more astronomy and meteorology. (He's not following either one, but majored in environmental science.) The two of them would go in the backyard and chart the stars. One year for Christmas we gave DS a small, but real, telescope.
I'm not scientific at all. So I don't even understand half of what they talk about. When both of my children were little they wanted to be veterinarians like dad and would treat their animals. But sadly they both changed their minds! ![]()

I see something EVERY night that's bright and larger than a star. It's in the west. Is this Venus. (oh, Venus, make my wish come true)?

It was too cloudy here to see them but I would have loved it! Seems pretty prolific at this time...

A year or so ago, I saw the latest incarnation of The 5th Dimension at Ramshead Tavern in Annapolis. The only original is Florence LaRue.
However, when they sang The Age of Aquarius I was transported to my teen years hearing that song.
They are still fabulous and Florence sings like an angel. She is 79.

My gosh........was that 'huge', bright, 'sparkling star' Venus?
Our neighbor thought it was an airplane's headlights, but I said 'it's standing still'.... 'not unless it's a UFO'.
Anyway, it was a rare sight.
Thank you, O/P, for alerting us.

@golding76 - We couldn't see anything last night because of the clouds here in So.Cal. before the rains came again last night.
Although we are partly sunny today, the clouds and rain are again forecasted for tonight. Our local news said yesterday that this alignment should be visible for 2 weeks and won't happen again until 2040. Maybe we'll get lucky on Friday night!
