A few days ago I placed an order with Amazon and expected delivery in a day or two, and forgot all about it.
That evening, around 8 o'clock or so, I heard a knock on the door (I wasn't expecting anyne) and then I heard SOMEONE OPENING MY SCREEN DOOR !!!! I thought someone was trying to break into my house
I opened the door (now I realize that was a stupid thing to do) and it wa "just" an Amazon delivery person placing the package on my porch.
I don't know if I should have called 911 (it crossed my mind but I acted -- to open the door -- before I could act); I sure was stupid to yank the door open. What if it HAD been a burglar??
From now on I'll leave myself a note or some other reminder that a delivery might be made unexpectedly and NOT do what I did this time. Maybe delivery people should knock or ring the doorbell and call out, "Amazon delivery" and not scare someone else out of 5 years growth!

Each delivery person has their own method. I expected a delivery yesterday and expected it to be put on my porch as usual. I keep looking, even checking the back door. Finally at 9 pm I looked out to see the box in the driveway, in front of my car, on the ground. They usually put it on the front porch, or at the back door. They never ring the doorbell, just UPS rings or knocks.

@Huge Hannah.. Sorry to hear you had such a scare! That would have scared me, too! If you live in a house, have a "peep hole" installed. My brother had my home remodeled and after the front door was installed the peep hole was next. I LOVE it!! I can see the whole porch including my driveway and further down the driveway out to the road! It really is amazing! I still would have jumped but at least looking thru the peep hole and seeing his truck would have made my heart stop pumping!!
I would also advise locking your screen door! The person should have said "Amazon Delivery", look thru your peep hole once you have one and tell him to leave it on the porch... unless you can see his truck. You should NOT have opened the door! Yikes!! ...but you know you did the wrong thing.
Please have the peep hole installed !! It REALLY brings peace of mind...after I stop shaking!!

@Scooby Doo.. Your delivery was in the driveway in front of your car on the ground??!! That to me is not acceptable when you have a porch! If you are concerned how this was delivered, I would contact whomever delivered it. Extra people are being hired for the busy season. This person should have been told to put it on your front porch...and it just takes 2 seconds to ring your door bell!! You spent your day looking outside for it! Gosh!!

There is a post in this forum about UPS not letting people know they had a package.
Obviously someone is not going to be happy no matter how their packages are delivered.
Just keep your door locked.

If you are expecting a delivery from Amazon, don’t freak out if you see a strange car in your driveway. As someone said, Amazon is hiring outside contractors for deliveries in this busy season. Unmarked cars, no uniforms, but packages in hands.

Delivery people are all over the place on this, especially at this time of the year. Don't beat up on yourself. You just acted on instinct. Some of the delivery people do ring the bell and drop the package. Some just drop the package and go and a few minutes later, you get the text msg that something was delivered. They are delivering late now, I got a UPS package at 8:30 just last night and like you, I was not expecting it. I was alone, the bell rang and I almost did not answer it because I was not expecting guests. Everyone in my life knows to call or text me before coming over. I was baby sitting a friend's dog and he was barking so I answered the bell and it was UPS. Not my regular UPS guy, one of the helpers they use now. If you check tracking when your order from Amazon (and every other retailer), you know when a package is coming to you. Also you can register with UPS, FEDEX, USPS and check every day and you know when a package is coming to you. Still.....there are times when you'll forget.

I get a notification and a ring on my phone, when Amazon makes a delivery. Someitmes a picture will pop up. Usually UPS/FedEx sends an email.
