Re: Zimbabwe will not charge U.S. dentist for killing Cecil the lion

'Some' (not all, of course)  'rich' people 'live on the edge', forever searching for a higher high...........(And sometimes their luck ends up on the other side; taking too many 'chances'.)

why would they? They allow killing of lions and other animals, including some rare and endangered ones, all the time. I find it funny that people are only outraged when it is a "beloved" lion, lol. Where did you get this from? They allow? Did you know 4 guards who were hired to protect wild elephants in the Congo were assassinated by poachers last week?

In Zimbabwe 22 poachers have been killed by authorities in combat action. 876 locals plus 44 foreigners have been apprehended this year. 5 game rangers were arrested for the poisoning of elephants.

Does this sound like "they allow killing"?

This isn't a matter of "they allow". It's a matter of people with money believing anything and everything is up for grabs and they are entitled to it because they can.

Great. The good doctor just got a pass to continue his disgusting hobby. Apparently when you have money to burn, "kicks just keep getting harder to find." Boredom sets in and soon you find yourself paying $60,000 to hunt and kill a lion already imprisoned in a "preserve." Big man. I strongly suggest he read the short story "The Most Dangerous Game," and give that a try. Whole new perspective on what being a prey means.

It's the right decision and I applaud the officials in Zimbabwe for not caving into public pressure.  While the killing of Cecil was horrendous and heart breaking Dr. Palmer  didn't do anything wrong.  He was tourist who paid for a guide escorted hunt.  He went where they took him and shot at whatever they told him to shoot at.  He had no way of knowing that Cecil was a protected animal and he had no way of knowing that Cecil had been baited.  That it was a set-up perpetrated by those who knew better and were only interested in profit.  Also, it's obvious that conducted those hunts like that.  Their nefarious practices were only uncovered because Cecil was famous.  I actually feel sorry for the man, he got caught up in something that he had nothing to do with.  He followed the rules, he had the proper permits and he relied on his guides and the game park warden.

Incidents like this remind us (well, me) to make sure our youngsters/teens keep away from 'questionable' peers and/or their parents/homes/groups/cliques/etc.  If something or someone doesn't seem 'quite right' (possibly dangerous), make up an excuse, and remove themselves from the situation. As youngsters, I'm sure that they run across all sorts of people/situations/dangers/etc., and just maybe they haven't mentioned it to anyone, thinking that they are perhaps 'too particular'.  Etc., etc.  Sometimes it's better to be a particular youngster/teen, than to be one who isn't at all.  JMO

This is not a political statement, merely an FYI but Donald Trumps son, Eric I believe went over to Africa and paid the guide, got the papers and with his high powered rifle shot and killed a beautiful majestic Elephant. All I could think when I saw him on the apprentice was Im no longer watching this show and what a %$@&@#$

If he hadn't been convicted of poaching before, I might believe his story.
