Very scary. Just showed a woman on ABC World News who was infected about 7 months ago. She had more than aches and pink eye. Was at a point she could only move her eyes. I just don't know how they're going to get a handle on this.
Mosquitoes FREAK ME OUT.

@Lucky Charm, the woman in that report had Guillain-Barré syndrome which is suspected of being linked to Zika but no definitive link has yet been established, just as with the microcephaly. There have been several reported cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome in people that contracted Zika.

Reports are now out that say it is thought Zika has been transmitted sexually.

I don't really think they know what they are dealing with here, I hope they can figure something out, This is frightening.

I'm actually surprised that this had just occurred. Seems it would've been happening all along.

Peter, they aren't sure. There has been a correlation with the more dangerous Guillain-Barre syndrome, but they can't say yet if it's cause and effect.

Hi @Lucky Charm
Maybe it has been happening and they just assumed it was a mosquito bite.

What I have read is scientists are genetically modifying male mosquitoes to mate with the females (only females bite) to release a new lineage of mosquito that doesn't carry viruses. Using pesticides has been determined to be harmful to the masses and not recommended.

Disease carried through mosquitoes always frightens me, as they LOVE to bite me. If I were thinking of getting pregnant and was in an area presently affected (although it seems that region is about to spread!), I would absolutely rethink becoming pregnant right now. I've had a few pts with Guillain-Barre, and it is a frightening, sad disease.

DH mentioned that he had heard one pharma company is saying they should hope to have a vaccine by the end of the year.
I hope that's true.
