@ChynnaBlue

Thank you for the additional information!  So the species makes the difference.

I've wondered about the effect of global warming, also.  The SF area has always had just a couple of days of heat, but this past summer was month after month of it.  Horrible.

I don't really think they know what they are dealing with here, I hope they can figure something out, This is frightening.

I heard that, too. Very scary, because that opens up another transmission route. I guess that means if your partner has traveled, you can't have sex for a couple weeks after they return? Lots of questions . . .

Another concern is protecting the blood supply.  No one is testing yet and it should be addressed.

So, basically this disease only has adverse effects on fertile women, right?  I mean if you're a guy or been through menopause, the worst that can happen is you get a fever, achey joints, and perhaps pinkeye, right?

The mosquitoes don't have to travel, all they have to do is bite someone and infect them and then when that person travels somewhere else they can be bitten by uninfected mosquitoes and pass the disease on to those mosquitoes.  Then it just continues to spread from there.  Scary isn't it! Controlling the mosquitoes is key.

I wonder if it could spread to the bed bugs that bite us when we stay in a hotel.  Bed bugs take your blood that's for sure.

Lots of questions but I'm not sure they actually know all the answers either.

From a retired teacher I know, the Zika virus has been around for years.  If the moms can get into the USA, then the taxpayer will foot the bill to support the child for the many years it lives.  I would think the UN would have demanded the countries with this on going disease to do something before it got out of hand.  But then, that would make sense.

Exactly what do you think these countries can do about this?  The UN can't just demad that countries "do something"  when you are dealing with a disease, especially one caused by a virus.   As with tons of viruses, there is no vaccine (and may never be one) and usually not many effective treatments either.  Not to mention that it is virtually impossible to control mosquitos everywhere in any country, let alone in several countries.

While you are correct that there may never be a vaccine research is underway as is testing of potential vaccines in several locations.
