I know I have a lot to be thankful for on this topic.

I pay $175 bi-weekly.

In 2010 my husband had a catastrophic medical illness that was a life changing event. He had no prior warning. A couple of million dollars later and our out-of-pocket costs have been minimal. One hospial stay of 90-days and the EOB I received had $9.31 for a pre-op drug not covered. The hospital never billed me. they received what they billed for. Every specialist or hospitalist that walked in his room..billed between $275+ per visit.  Co-pays are minimal for MD's and scripts.

I will NEVER complain about our premiums as I will never catch up anywhere near the amount they have paid out in Seven-years and hospital stays that were close to accummulative of one-year.

I feel for those who have limited coverage and hopefully the subsidies that were lost will be reinstated.

My daughter and husband by the same token pay about $700 per month for a family of three thru his job. Co-pays are $20 for reg and $40 for specialists and $175 for ER. etc. They have no option. It is needed.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

I am 45 on SSDI. My two years were up and I went on Medicare last summer. My united healthcare advantage plan is $32 a month. It actually went down three dollars. Of course then you have the regular Medicare taking out of SS check. Before I got on Medicare to bridge the gap until I was eligible I had a UHC plan through the state exchange. It was around $100 a month. I qualified for subsidies. I had two jaw surgeries this year. The total cost for both was around 300k. I ended up paying around $3300.  My out of pocket cap is $5200.

My dads supplement through his retirement package is around $90.  My mom has until June of 2018 for Medicare so she has the same health insurance they had while my dad was working.  It's around $200 a month. They also pay about $100 a month for dental for  both of them.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

My DH and I have Medical Mutual PPO through his employer.  $98.00 is deducted from his pay which is every 2 weeks.

Our office vists are $15.00 deductible

We have $3,000 co-pay each

ER visits are $100.00 co-pay.

We are required to do mail-in presciptions if it's a long term medication.

He also has eye and dental that we pay for separately.  His vision is through VSP and is good coverage. The dental isn't that great.  They just re-negotiated their contract and I believe they are losing dental which is okay with me.  I can pick up a plan through my dentist.  I'm not sure what is going to happen with his health insurance.

His insurance does have some weird kinks.  For instance, they will only cover cholestrol and prostrate testing for the employee.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

Presently I pay about $158/mo.  That's for 80/20 coverage for PPO, no vision, no dental.  In two years if things do not change, I'll be 65 and Medicare A will be free, I'll have to pay whatever the cost at that time will be for Part B and I will be keeping my present coverage as my supplemental so guessing that'll be close to $300.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

My husband is 70 and retiring ths year.  It was so quick, we refused medicare and took insurance from his employer.  It is a PPO, we will pay 1350 a month for medical, vision and dental for both of us.  I am in the middle of some things, and my 3 of doctors do not take medicare.  We will do our homework this next year and elect another insurance plan if need be to reduce costs and see about medicare.  When my husband is employed by the company are pmts are like 80@ week for both.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

I am 64 and buy my own insurance.  I pay $1170 per month for Blue Cross-Blue Shield.  It is a basic, no frills, high deductible policy.  My insurance will no longer be available at the end of 2017.  No company will be selling individual policies in my state in 2018.

I will have 6 months to go until I qualify for medicare and I am unsure at this time what I will do.  The state is trying to get a stop-gap waiver approved by the federal government and should know by the end of the month whether or not it will be allowed.  If it is allowed, some insurance companies will be willing to sell individual policies.

Needless to say, I can hardly wait for medicare!

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

55 dollars a WEEK comes out of DHs pay towards our insurance (his company pays the rest and we can pick between 3 different insurances or switch at any time). And it includes regular health insurance, eye, and dental. For our regular insurance we have a co-pay of 15 at the family Dr, 20 at specialists, and 100 if we go to the ER. And our dental is fantastic but our eye care eh it pays the check up but the glasses not much at all.

PS Just like 3 years ago that insurance was 30 some a week (and the copays were less), and by the way my insurance is the majority cost. IF we weren't married DHs insurance alone would be much cheaper. lol.

Medicare coverage isn't much better.   I thought like you about Medicare.   I am on a advantage pllan and it is okay.  I am thinking about a supplement but not sure I can afford it.   Medicare now has a group of Dr.'s that decide on certain meds like pain pills etc.   These Dr.'s that don't know you or have your records make that decision.  I am really disgusted and haven't even been on it a yr.  Not sure what I am paying , I believe around 141.00 a month.  I will be curious if Medicare gets a raise this year.  I was in the exchange and I hated it, because of the hassle to reapply very year.  They paid a lot better then Medicare does.  I think when people that see the hike in premiums it won't be a good thing.   The other thing that gets me is we work our whole lives, and they take our money out for Medicarewithout us approving it,  however you still have to pay a monthly premium and now they are telling the Dr.'s how to treat patient.  Something is very wrong!
