I'm retired, on Medicare with which I have an Advantage Plan. The only thing I pay is the standard mandatory Medicare charge.  My supplemental plan is free for me and thus far has always paid 100% of my medical expenses. I've never paid a dime, even with major surgery.

My insurance for myself has always been free from my employer and it's had excellent coverage.  I think long ago, we had a small deductible but never any co-pay.

@Kachina624

I looked into the Advantage plan and they would take over my prescription plan (which I am very satisfied with).  They checked the prices on the meds I take and their co-pay for the same drugs is prohibitively higher.

Unless you don't take any meds, I don't know how your Advantage plan cost could be zero.

This is only meant for those of you who wish to share such information.  My husband gets health insurance through his employer.  I don't think it's great coverage, but it is what it is.  We used to get a $50 weekly credit, which we no longer get.  I just checked to see what amount is taken out of his check now for our insurance, and it is a total of $641.00 per month.  That is the cost for my husband and myself (no children).

I pay slightly less than you do for just myself. If I worked full-time it would be less, but I’m grateful to have benefits for working 3/4 time(although it feels like full-time some days, lol). I also consider that it is taken out pre-tax, which helps.

We are very forunate I retired from teaching-30 years- full pension, however I am under age 62.  Our health insurance, which includes vision & dental is $211.00 per month.  My husband is on medicare, so our payment is less than 2 people in their 50s.

@LilacTree Advantage plans seem to vary wildly from one plan to the next.  Our Advantage Plan is administered but not underwritten by Humana and our prescription drug plan is under Optum RX (United Health Care).  I retired from a state government entity which is self-insured.  The coverage is very generous.  We previously had Caremark (CVS) drug coverage but the Optumn pays more for my prescriptions.  They're also more efficient.

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

I'm a secretary working in the public school system. I have Blue Cross HMO open access, which means as long as I stay in network, no referrals. For myself, single, no dependents, it's about $48 a month, which includes medical with prescriptions and dental. My deductible is $100 for medical, $25 for dental, and office visits are $10, urgent care $35. I'm extremely lucky to have it and pay so little. If I didn't have employer coverage, I'd have to go back on the state exchange, which has very high deductibles I'm never able to make.

CVS uses SilverScript now (or in my area, I don't know the reason why it's different than it was when you had it).

For different reasons, we are both very lucky.

Mine, FREE, a benefit for being a career teacher in the state.

DH's $500.00.  He's been a heart patient since 34 and had the city's first angioplasty which I couldn't believe because he was and is still slim!

Re: Your monthly cost for health insurance?

We pay virtually nothing, as my husband's union dues are supposed to contain his portion of the premium, and his dues are under $9 per week.

We are on a PPO, no deductibles (with the option to seek care off the plan), but all the best doctors and hospitals are on the plan. I've never found someone that wasn't.

Our copay for office visits is $10 (even specialists) and generic drugs used to be free, but recently went up to anywhere between $.80 to a dollar and change for most prescriptions we have had filled.

Our dental has improved over the last couple of years, in that we have to pay $1 or $2 for cleanings and x rays, and my portion of the last crown I had was only a couple hundred dollars.

We realize how immensely fortunate we are in this, and do not take it for granted one bit. We also know this can't go on forever and I dread when we no longer have such great insurance at such low cost to us. Paying the premiums many have quoted here will change our lifestyle (not that it is all that high now) considerably.

My husband never considers finding other employment he's at the top of the pay for his field in our area, and these great benefits make it pretty certain he'd never leave his employer voluntarily.

Retired State employee, mine is free. I do pay $215 a month for my son. I will do this until he turns 26. Then that money goes back into my monthly check. I have BC/BS
