Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

Some people enjoy big parties,  some people don't.  I'm in the "don't" category.  I'm just not a party hearty type of person.  I prefer smaller gatherings of family and close friends to mark the special occasions in my life.  We did not have a big 25th anniversary party; we took a family vacation in Hawaii instead.  It's funny because I do love planning big parties, I just don't like the idea of being the guest of honor.  And I hate the idea of surprise parties!  Not a problem because my family and my friends know me well.  When people ask about the party, you should just be honest.  "We aren't having a big party, we'll celebrate do something small".

for a 50th i would think it would be fun to throw a big party for your friends and family. what a great way to celebrate with those you love, especially the ones who have been around all 50 years! parties like this are fun and bring people close together. better to celebrate the life with LIVE than to celebrate the inevitable alternative.

of course, if that isnt your thing, then it is totally your decision. no one should have to do something they dont want to do.

have never heard of putting an anniversary in the newspaper?

Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

My husband and I went to Niagara on the Lake for a long weekend to celebrate our 50th. We did not want any parties. We stayed at a beautiful hotel in town and when we told them we were celebrating our 50th anniversary, we were upgraded to a suite and received a beautiful platter of fruit, cheese, and wine. We saw two plays that weekend, enjoyed a trip to a winery, and had a great time.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought I was in the minority on this. I dislike being anywhere near the limelight so to speak. I actually thought of eloping when we got married. We had a wedding but the thought of a church full of people all turning to watch me gave me palpatations.

Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

I vividly remember my Grandparents (on my Mom's side) 50th Anniversary party. I was about 7-8 years old. There were so many relatives there and it was such a fun occasion. It seemed like every reunion was lots of laughing and good times.

Sadly my Dad's parent never made it to 50 years. My Grandmother died when she was in her 50s.

A cousin (on my Mom's side) had a huge party. They rented a hall and had over a hundred people.

It was so good to see everyone get together for a happy occasion. It is nice to see the extended family at an event other than a funeral.

So if people want to have a party. I am all in and have traveled 1,500 miles to celebrate.

And if they want a small immediate family dinner, well that is nice too.

@sunshine45  Yes putting a write up is common here. My one set of in-laws had a picture from their wedding and next to it a picture of them now.

@CrazyKittyLvr2: Congratulations to you and DH on such a tremendous milestone!

It certainly should be celebrated, but on your terms. Dinner, trip, something for your home like a new TV, mattress or other furniture that you would both enjoy using.

Congrats and enjoy!

Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

With our family - we rarely do anything "big."  Everything is just a family affair at someone's house - no "outsiders."
