Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

Quiet celebration for sure. I definitely prefer to fade into the wallpaper over being front and center.

We have a big anniversary coming up and I'm calling the shots on this one: we are having a big party because I want one.  All of my other milestones have been ignored by my husband, not just birthdays, so this will be more my party than his, really.  Yes, ego-driven for sure, but heck, it only happens once.  I think the kids attending will have the best time because they already know we're getting out our chocolate fountain. LOL!

(Thank you Navy for providing me with military honors at my retirement.  That was one momentous ceremony, folded flag and all.)

Sounds GREAT!!! My brothers and I had a BIG party for our parents 50th. LOTS of friends and family where there. We had the party at their house. It was during the summer, so we had it outdoors. My parent's home was VERY large with a huge outdoor space. We rented tables, chairs, linens, plates , glasses, etc. The food was fabulous. It was catered by a 5 star restaurant, had an open bar, 2 types of wine on each table, several bartenders, a wait staff, a dance floor, and a DJ that mostly played my parents' favorite music. It was a BLAST, and EVERYONE had a GREAT time!!!

@QVCkitty1 I agree, never thought of it that way.

Re: Your Views On Anniversary Parties

I’m at the age where my circle of friends’ parents are celebrating milestone anniversaries. I like the idea of a party. I’m starting to feel like the only time our extended family gathers together is for funerals.

I feel badly that one poster chose a nasty term to describe those people who gave us two gifts for our little party.  It was our two children.  Yes, they decided to give us two gifts - the flutes and a booking for the photo session.  The reason they did this, as was explained, was that they wanted to do this because we have given so much over the years to them.  We are the type of people who love to give but want nothing back but the usual love and attention.

I am so sorry I posted my story.

I never like to be the center of attention so very low key would be my choice.

Our 50th anniversary is in a few weeks. A couple of people asked if we were having a party. My sister asked last night. No, we are not. We are both pretty low key and don't want a fuss. Dinner with the kids and my sister's family is fine. Two of his brothers and their wives were given surprise parties. Also they put write ups in the local paper. The paper thing is common here. The parties were very nice but it's not us. I hate being surprised with a passion. and both of our kids know that so no worries there. I told them long ago, surprise me and your're out of the will. lol What is your preference? Big blowout or quiet celebration.

@CrazyKittyLvr2  ITA. Birthdays and other occasions may be fun to celebrate w/ others, but anniversaries are a private, intimate and quiet celebrate for just the two of us. We do not need gifts as we’re trying to clear out what we have accumulated over 50 yrs. in Aug.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 - ITA - don't like surprise parties either. We are more low key and celebrate with the kids/grands.
