My favorite memory is when all 6 kids (7th wasn't born yet) ran down the stairs oldest to youngest to see brand new bikes, all of us were surprised. A friend of my parents stored them in their garage until Christmas Eve. Mine was teal with a white basket and flowers on the front.
I remember one year I went looking in my Mom's closet and saw exactly what I asked for, a sleeping bad and record player. I never looked in her closet again because it ruined my Christmas. I was a barbie doll everything kid and baby dolls always loved them. When I got older I was a Osmond fan so thrilled every time I got a new album which I still have today.
Stocking were so fun Mom was a pro at filling them. She was put in Candy bars and Christmas crackers ( the ones you pull each end popped and had a paper crown, joke and toy inside.
We always got A family game and like another poster posted Operation was my favorite.

@Grand Happy Welcome!šŸ„° How EXCITING that all of you received shiny new bikes for Christmas!!! I can see 7 smiling, grateful faces!šŸ˜ I smiled as I read of your holiday lesson learned!šŸ˜Š How wonderful it is to STILL have such a treasured Marie Osmond gift! Your holidays sound PERFECT!ā¤ļø

I thought I was unfamiliar with Christmas Crackers until I Googled just now, and then remembered! We did not have them, but I have had them in gift baskets!šŸ˜Š

It also reminds me of Merry Go Rounds at Amusement Parks. I don't see those any place around here anymore.

I love the Merry Go Rounds they have at Christmas that play Christmas music. I have an old one. Would be nice to get a new one.

@SandySparkles   We always got to pick a doll for Christmas.  I lived in the Pittsburgh area...so it was a big deal to drive into the city and go to the many department stores at that time in search of the perfect doll ....and see Santa of course.  We usually received 2 more gifts from Santa on Christmas morning and always something to wear.
I remember one year my Uncle lived with us temporarily.  He was in the Merchant Marines.  On one of his trips, he brought us large soft native dolls from South America.  They are  dressed in the style of their culture with beautiful headdressings.    I still have my dolls to this day.  True Keepsakes.

@Mombo1 Welcome!šŸ„° I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post!šŸ˜Š I would have been THRILLED as a young girl to have received such a special doll, and am most impressed that you STILL have it!!!! That tells me just how dear it is to you!!!ā¤ļø

@SandySparkles   Thank you. I actually have two.  One is a male warrior.  The other is a young woman.  Both are about 16" high...and have been through many moves with me.  They sit in a bookcase with my original Raggedy Ann doll.  I just realized they are all over 60 + years old!     Oh my....I feel ancient.  šŸ˜³

@Mombo1 Welcome!šŸ„° WOW! How WONDERFUL it is to have such cherished heirlooms!!!!šŸ˜Š Being that they are over 60 years old, they are now investments!šŸ˜

You start such lovely threads, Ms. Sparkles!

The Christmas I remember most, I wanted (but did not ask for) a telescope.  Yes, I am a geek!

We were not allowed to request presents in my family.  But my parents had gotten me a telescope just thru inntuition, I guess.

I got a telescope around age 12 and used it every night for several years.  I bonded with another geek who lived nearby and liked to take astronomical photos using the telescope.  We won a science fair,  He went on to MIT. (He didm't have a telescope and at age 12, I didn't have a camera.)

I haven't answered this because my memory is almost non-existent. I'm jealous of all of you that can remember so many parts of your lives. But I just closed my eyes when I saw your thread and an image popped in my mind. I saw myself as a five or six year old in Christmas pajamas sitting at a pink cardboard vanity. It had an arched mirror, not a real one, and a pink stool to sit on.

That's so funny!  We bought our oldest granddaughter a pink (plastic!) vanity for when she came to our house.

She was only about 2 and she was a p-i-c-k-y eater.  The only way we could get her to eat was to bring the vanity down to the dining room and she would sit at it and eat her meals.

Re: Your Favorite Christmas Toy And/Or Memory!šŸŽ„šŸŽ Which Do You Remember?

@SandySparklesI love this thread! Thank You for brightening the day!

I remember the beautiful horse on springs. and the warning  " Remember to wear your slippers on that thing!"  I was always pinching my toes on the springs! but it was worth it to ride my horse to adventure!

Does anyone remember Colorforms?  Ah, the age of vinyl. little vinyl cut outs in geometric shapes you could stick to a smooth background board and stick em together to make little figures on the background.

One of my favourite gifts was from my uncle. It was a plastic "computer" that had questions on cardboard punchout slips that you put into the computer and it gave you the answer.

He was happy that I set to that game and ignored everything else until I was dragged away from it.  ( yeah, I was one of those kids who read the Encyclopedia for fun. )

I have to say I don't think Any of us kids ever got anything we "Asked for"  Santa brought what Santa brought.  although Mom DID sit us all down with the Sears Wishbook to initial what we wanted. ( just to give her a moments peace I suppose!)

Such fun memories and recollections of family long passed.  Thanks.Heart

Those are lovely memories and thank you for sharing them with us.  We were not wealthy at all but my parents worked so hard to give us really Christmas times.  I got a Barbie with some outfits, which I adored.  I got a view master - not sure if that is the proper name - and a couple different wheels in it to see fairy tales.  I got a little pink jewelry box wirth music and a little dancing ballerina.  Also a heart necklace and bracelet.  And a special Bible from my Dad.  We stayed home for Christmas and relatives came to our house for the big meal and to have fun and talk and play games and to play with the toys.  We also had the special nut tray and ribbon candy and tangerines, etc.  Oh, and I forget that I got a kaleidoscope (sp?).  I loved and adored that thing!

@Nightowlz Welcome back!šŸ„° When I went to an amusement parks as a young girl, I would my siblings and I would BEG to go on the merry-g-round! There was nothing as exciting as being hoisted onto the horse, wind blowing in your face, the loud sound of music playing, lights flashing and seeing my dear mother's watchful eyes as we went around and around!ā¤ļø

I enjoyed taking my children on them the few times we visited amusement parks when they were growing up.šŸ˜Š
