My nephew of 24 is depressed about his thinning hair. It has affected his confidence and self esteem. Apparently it is genetic because his older brother of 33 also has experienced significant hair loss. My nephew doesn't think any women will date him because everyone else his age has hair. Just passing this on that men also experience self esteem issues. Maybe not as much as women but these issues can really hurt ones confidence especially at a young age. I was thinking of ordering him Healthy Hair Skin and nails by Andrew Lessman but didn't want to push his buttons and draw attention to it.

Re: Young man losing his hair

Has he thought about shaving his head? My BF in college had thinning hair which started in his teens and kept his head shaved. He looked great BTW.

Re: Young man losing his hair

You can try that Reever but that isn't going to stop something genetic. I was a hair stylist (colorist) for years before becoming an aesthetician. There aren't too many topical products that help and even Rogaine has limited results. There are procedures he can get done such as hair transplants, etc... I would have him see a dr.They really do some great things but they aren't cheap. Lots of places do have financing though. I would have him at least talk to a specialist so he can be aware of all the cutting edge technologies available to him.

I do feel for him because it does really affect a mans self esteem especially when they are young but luckily for him the bald and very close cut styles are really in for men and lots of men who aren't even bald wear these.

Good luck to you and your nephew. You are very sweet to take such an interest in his life and worry about his feelings like you do. He is lucky to have an aunt like you!!

It's not unusual for young men to shave their heads even though they have full heads of hair. It seems to be a trend nowadays. Mabe he'll decide to do it.

Ever since Michael Jordan, the shaved head is very stylish. Taking it one step further with the shaved head, add a beard...THAT look will never go out of style. Tell him he's ahead of the curve!!

I agree. I see guys with that look all the time and it isn't because they are going bald, it is because they choose it. I like that look.

Dan Hughes has lost a significant amount of hair. I always wondered if it bothered him? He seems to make comments about his lack of success around women. Wonder if that has something to do with it.

Re: Young man losing his hair

My sons all knew guys who were losing hair in teens or twenties. A lot of them shaved their heads. My youngest son (32) has thinning hair. He's tried some of the treatments.

Yeah, I think this is a great look, too.

I am so sorry that your nephew is dealing with this. Some men start going through this at this young age. I am sorry that it is affecting his confidence, too.

Isn't he married? I am sure his wife will be sad to know he has no success with women?
