Re: You've got to read the fine print.

I find this in most of the cases when I try to shop sales.  Too many restrictions.  The entire store could be on sale and the one thing I want is not.  Just happened yesterday at Disney Store.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

Imho, it's equivalent to a 'bait and switch'.

If Macy's thinks they're gonna get more business, they're sadly mistaking!  Misleading customers is a major turnoff.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

@gardenman Try Club Room, Charter Club, Alfani, Hotel Collection, Style and Company which are some of their own private label brands.  Martha Stewart items might also work.

Things like Adidas are actually situated IN Maccy's but are not part of Macy's which I learned while shopping in the Downtown-Metro Center Macy's in DC in December, 2017.  Adidas is a "Leased or Licensed" department.

Similar to the situation with items at the cosmetics counters there.  Rarely do their coupons work for things like Chanel, for example,  but I think Macy's Money does.

If you are persistent you will find something on their website that will accept your coupon.  Maybe something for your bedroom, bathroom  or kitchen in housewares.

Good luck.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

There used to be a Bon Ton here and they always had so many exclusions that it wasn't worth trying to use the coupon. They went out of business about 3 years ago.

Good grief!  You'd think they'd be embarrassed to send out something like that.  Bad PR.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

I love shopping at Macy's.

They automatically apply all coupons to my online account and I can apply any applicable ones at checkout.

One of the easiest, smoothest checkouts I've used.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

I actually emailed Macy's once several years ago suggesting that they list what they coupon was good FOR instead of what is wasn't good for. They sent me a $10 credit but clearly were not interested in my suggestion, lol. The coupons are a joke. I buy online now, and I never know if the coupon will work, and most times it doesn't, and sometimes it isn't even clear why. Macy's should just do away with them.

My other pet peeve is Chicos, whose prices go up and down like a yo yo depending upon what percentage off they are offering. You really never know when the best time is to actually purchase something! They will raise the price when it is 50% off, and then lower it when it is 25% off. One would think that would be illegal or fraud or at least misleading advertising. It certainly has reduced my spending there!

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

Several years back, Macy decided to use an AMEX- based Macy charge card.  Since I wanted nothing to do with AMEX, canceled my Macy card.  I no longer needed career clothes because my closet was full and I had started a project-based business as a consultant.

Furthermore, I responded to a Macy survey that they no longer had attractive clothes that appealed to me and other older women with disposable income.  Suggested they take a look at what Chico's was offering.

Then they went to a points-based system which to me was a sign of financial issues.  This past Christmas, my good friend told me that they dropped the " Sharing " credit on holiday purchases.

Their Backstage / clearance section: no returns.

In the last 5+ years, I can count on one hand my Macy purchases. Not surprising the closing of stores even before the pandemic struck.

Re: You've got to read the fine print.

They took over Famous-Barr around here and it's nowhere near as nice a store anymore.
