I did this for a few years in my old neighborhood. Only we called it being elved. In December you pick out a couple neighbors and you jingle them.

You need a couple decorative bags. We used felt ones because we hoped that we could jingle the whole neighborhood and those bags would be passed around. depending on the people you would choose items that are family friendly. The list below is just a suggestion and I never put that much in the bag. You also make a sign up for each bag that says you have been jingled with instructions to the neighbor to put it on their door or window. That way you won't get jingled twice.

It is a fun tradition to start with your neighbors. When I participated in this, the homes were new and nobody really knew each other. It was a fun way to get to know your neighbors and it was a tradition that we carried on for years. My children were small and the loved the sneaking out of the house and putting the bags on the porch or door knob and ringing the bell and running to hide in the bushes or as far as we could go without getting caught. It is all secret and although a couple neighbor kids told me that their family jingled us, for the most part the kids were so excited about being in on this fun tradition that they kept it secret.
