Re: You mean opera star Maria Callas as well as Marilyn was at JFK's infamous birthday bash?

@EastCoastGal   JFK was indeed a married, but that didn't stop him from having numerous affairs....he even entertained his ladies in the White House and his staff helped cover this up.

You're right, it was extremely disrespectful to his wife, Jackie, but the fault is on JFK, not Marilyn.  He and his brother, used and took advantage of her.

JFK was no choir boy.  If you read any presidential history, this behavior isn't rare. Even several First Ladies were known to have outside " interests."

It happened in recent history. It seems the First Ladies put up with their husband's bad behavior.

It doesn't shock me.

Re: You mean opera star Maria Callas as well as Marilyn was at JFK's infamous birthday bash?

@Carmie... Oh believe me!! I know all about Kennedy's cheating and having women brought to the White House...and that Marilyn was used by Kennedy and his brother... and I was never shocked by any of it !! What I think about Marilyn is didn't she know better or was she that ignorant to sing happy birthday to him...meaning he was our president and a married president as well... Wasn't she embarrassed to do that? I guess not because she did it !! Do you know what I'm trying to say ?? To cheat with him in private is one thing...but for her to actually go to the microphone and sing Happy birthday to him the way she did...Well...It made me wonder if she was drugged... It makes me sick how they just used her...

@EastCoastGal   I have always believed Marilyn was drunk when she sang Happy birthday to JFK. She was such a beautiful women with low self esteem.

Her life was difficult and tragic. I believe the  K family was responsible for her death and so much evidence was swept " under the rug."

They did whatever they wanted to and got away with murder on more than one occasion.

The first thing that came to mind for me, seeing that pic in the OP, was that he seems to be trying SUPER hard to look straight ahead.  Smiley Very Happy

Re: You mean opera star Maria Callas as well as Marilyn was at JFK's infamous birthday bash?

@Carmie  She had been drinking champagne prior to the event, according to what I read.

The Marilyn myth is alive and well.

I doubt she had any qualms about appearing so seductive at the event, that was her stock in trade and she wasn't exactly a choir girl.

Lee Strasberg reportedly refused to attend because he knew she was going to go into her sexy routine and he didn't want that.

She had an affair with Yves Montand, for one, and he has married.

So if JFK played around, and I'm sure he did, so did Marilyn.

BoopOMatic, I am learning more and more about that evening on this thread!

I have never heard about Lee Strasberg's refusal to attend the birthday party and his reason for deciding not to go.  I well remember the affair with Yves Montand.

Marilyn was a needy person.  So sad.

Re: You mean opera star Maria Callas as well as Marilyn was at JFK's infamous birthday bash?

I was just thinking that at this perhaps first meeting between Maria Callas and Marilyn Monroe, they had no clue how their lives would intersect even further and with greater consequences.

Marilyn's illicit and married lover was John F. Kennedy, and Maria's illicit and married lover was Aristotle Onassis.  (Until 1960, Onassis was married to the former Tina Livanos, the daughter of another Greek shipping magnate.)

When JFK was horrifically gunned down in 1963, Jacqueline became available, and Onassis began stalking her almost immediately Sometimes I think that Onassis and not Allen Dulles/the CIA or the Mafia orchestrated JFK's death.  Admittedly, it is a bizarre thought, but life can be unfathomable at times.

So, Marilyn's illicit lover's death made it possible for Maria's illicit lover to pursue our First Lady.

@EastCoastGal

I seem to recall it was fairly well known that the very charming Peter Lawford was the go-between ... the pimp, if you will.  I am sure Lawford encouraged Marilyn, even to the extent of a (rumor) that he suggested JFK would divorce Jackie and marry her when his presidency was over.

Personally, I can't believe she would believe it, but she was pretty naive if she did.
