Being aware of someone's name and why they are known isn't "worshipping at the altar of celebrity", it's watching new shows on the pay networks - or not watching them. It's reading People - or not reading; watching ET and similar shows, or not watching. "Worship" of any kind has never been a factor for my TV, film or music interests.
ITA. @Moonchilde
People worship God or other deities, not actors or musicians.

Well, @Noel7, I do think some people do "worship" celebrities in the sense that they can do no wrong, and the person "follows" them to excess, over-enthuses about babies, personal issues and etc. and becomes obsessed with them. I would use the term obsessed rather than worship. But my point was really that just because someone recognizes a name, a face or a show/film and knows 'what's up' with that person doesn't mean they automatically, as a matter of course, must then 'worship'/be obsessed with them.
I personally have never liked the word "worship" in any sense; I prefer the word 'honor', as it describes my feelings better. To me, my personal definition of the word 'worship' denotes blind faith, which isn't in my nature. JMO re the semantics.

I don't disagree with you @Moonchilde but that is not the same as worship.

I doubt it.

He also stated in one segment that his show got ratings in the 42-45% range.
Wonder if any shows honored last night will be able to say the same thing in 40 years.

I also don't know who any of them are and I realized it's because "they've had so much work done to their faces and bodies" - they're unrecognizable. Years ago, movie stars walking the red carpet were unique - and u immediately knew who they were - even if they were a lot older than you. And - they were a lot more interesting and mysterious.

I knew everyone but a few and im older. The only reason I didnt know a few is, I dont watch all the shows on tv or all the shows on Netflix. And we have HBO but not Showtime (or Cinemax). I know all the current music too , (and love and buy a lot of it), because of my teen grandchildren and from going on You Tube or seeing artists on tv talk shows. Now my husband forget it, lol. he hates all top 40 current music. He listens to alternative (as far as current music) and then of course he listens to music from our decades. But he does know a lot of actors and actresses.
