Long story short:

 

My laptop needed some work done on it so my DH took it took to a repair service nearby. The work needed wasn't difficult or anything like that and they said they'd have it back to us in a week or two.

 

FOUR WEEKS LATER it still wasn't done and we'd had nothing but excuses from them, so DH got on the phone and asked why they hadn't repaired it yet. The guy hummed and hawed and said it would be done IN AN HOUR.

 

Husband went to pick it up and there were customers all over the place in pretty much the same boat. The proprieter tried to run our credit card but his point-of-sale gadget wasn't working so he said he'd send the bill to us.

 

DH got the laptop home and they had completely restroyed it. It won't boot up and is completely ususable.

 

We called them, left them a very angry voicemail, told them what they did and that we won't pay for it (spoke loudly and angrily but didn't use any swear words, etc., just in case the call was bring recorded).

 

This weekend we'll start shopping for a replacement laptop. And I'm going to send them a copy of the receipt (and bloat out our credt card number) and tell them I expect payment with the next 10 (or so--I haven't made up my mind as to the actuall number) business days.

 

I don't expect they'll pay but at least they'll take a monetary hit for ruining my laptop.

@GoneButNotForgotten.  It's very easy to sue someone or a business in small claims court. (Call your county clerk) You might want to consider doing that and also leave a scathing review on Yelp or anyplace else, like the NextDoor app, for your neighbors. 

 

It's obvious you've got people who don't know what they're doing.

@GoneButNotForgotten  Does anyone know what they're doing these days?  I don't think so.  It seems every time we have something done or repaired it has to have 2 or 3 call backs to get things done right. Plus getting super screwed on the price.  Fun times, ain't it?

I would report them to the BBB----can't hurt and may give you a little satisfaction. Suing doesn't hold the same fear as it used to, especially these days----know someone who thinks suing is the endgame---Ha----if you know what I mean!!!
