OMG! ONe of our favorite things our mother let us do was play and run in the rain! We loved it and so neat to hear you did that too!

haha you can tell what generation-we always said "neat", then there was "cool" which I can barely have myself say-well, that's a story for another day lol!

@on the bay @Mz iMac Then after playing in the rain we got to make mud pies!!  What fun we had back without electronics.

@beckyb1012  I made a mud pie once, it didn't taste very good, yes, I actually tasted it, lol.

@mousiegirl You are a braver girl than me and a much better chef I am sure!!Heart

@beckyb1012  I thought dog bisquits tasted better, lol.  To this day, I have an excellent palate as the Top Chef people would say, and have loved cooking forever. Smiley Happy

Such a good thread.  on the bay, you made a side comment on page 1 about the use of "neat" (baby boomer)  vs. "cool" (also boomer, but used more by later generations).

I love expressions like "neat" and try to use often.  I'm trying to train myself to say "swell" (Depression era and before) which I like much better than "cool".  My parents said swell.

Was noticing in the classic Jimmy Stewart movie, "Harvey" the other day, that Jimmy said "I declare" at one point.  That is a great vintage expression!

(Sorry to get sidetracked from rain to language, but I loved your comment about "neat"!)

I used to get in trouble for singing that song.  My Mother and Father felt it was not a "nice" song.

@Oznell-

haha-my grandmother used to say "I declare!"

and I'd rather say swell than cool; just doesn't fit-I'd feel like a grandma trying to sound well, darest I say it, "cool".

I also sometimes wonder if when I always say neat that people think-no one says that anymore lol!

@Yardlie=

I can't believe you said this -making some "fudge" from mud and giving it to the neighborhood bully!-way to go!-Okay I know mean but still, sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I used to beat the boys indian wrestling to solve an argument. They would be so ashamed they were beaten by a girl, not another word was said and they went home "wagging their tails behind them"-okay,-stop with myself lol!

But I got a special "homemade" tootsie roll from my sister. She knew I loved them and made one out of clay that looked just like one.Her friends were in on it too.  I ate it of course and then cried. She did feel bad about it.

We laugh about it now.

@DiAnne-

I wonder why they thought that?

Today, my daughter said they sang that song at her playgroup! She had learned it from me but they are still learning it today.

@beckyb1012-you are right-classics never go out of styl!

Now that I think more about it think it was the Mother Goose rhyme "It is raining, It is pouring, the old man is snoring" is the one they did not like.
