I love the deer but I would not get their saliva on me.

@MamaWick They're beautiful! Love them, I fed them apples also, and carrots. I put them in several places in the yard and sometimes they would be waiting.
It's been almost a year and they still look in their places. My dogs like them and wag their tails at them or ignore them. This morning they were grazing on periwinkle and azaleas by my driveway as we walked by. But I always call to them when I see them so they'll know it's me and not a hunter.

I'm not aware of any state where feeding deer is legal.

I agree they will lose their fear of humans and be in harm's way. I don't know why you feel the need to feed them out of your hand? You say no lectures so you must know it is wrong? I hate when our local news shows cruel videos during hunting season looking for the perpetrators?

They are beautiful, gentle creatures. I understand the thrill of feeding them. Our son is a Conservation Police Officer and would tell you this is not helping them. Not lecturing.

Where I live, wildlife cannot be hunted unless there is 10.1 acres with no houses/cabins. This area does not have any parcels of land that large or larger. Humans (even me) have taken over their natural habitat and their natural food sources are scarce. If this were not the case, we wouldn't be feeding them.
These deer love our particular lot and actually visited a lot before we moved here permanently. We've owned here for 2+ years, but didn't live here until last July. I'm posting a picture of them resting in our carport and one peeking around the side of the house. You can see our front was still dirt and the driveway was still gravel. The front yard is now xeriscaped and driveway asphalted. So they were coming here even before I started feeding them. These pictures were taken by neighbors and sent to us.

Hopefully O/P doesn't live near a hunting area.
I'm only guessing that hunters can't hunt everywhere. Near homes and developments, etc.
I guess they wouldn't be good pets, even if they were corralled on a person's property? I don't know.
'Anyway', they are precious.
Let's all wish O/P's area is protected from hunters and gun fire.

I wouldn't mention your location...........
Nice photos.
Wishing all of them the best of health and safety.
All we can do is wish nature the best of luck.

The Buckley Family are so cute!
No lectures from me .. I like that you're able to feed them.
My brother & sister-in-law are fortunate to have deer frequently in their back yard. Recently, a family of fox were showing up each day, 5 of them. He video'd them playing. They were the cutest. Their back yard abutts conservation land.
Thank you for sharing.
