Are these boats considered "green", or do they leave a carbon footprint?

hmm, I am curious so I looked it up.

What is the carbon footprint of a yacht?

For example, a superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools emits about 7,020 tons of CO2 a year, according to our calculations, making it by the far worst asset to own from an environmental standpoint.

Why would anyone need 10 yachts? That's a fleet. Do they rent them out?

I of course know nothing about yachts or yacht life.

@Eileen in Virginia

Another seasick sister here....I got queasy sitting on a floating dock one afternoon catloll:

I suppose once you have so much money, toys like this are the norm.  And, then, of course, the staff to maintain all of it...and, like you said, security, etc.....and on and on.

Fueling one of these things would likely be more than the annual income of many.  So it goes.

Mind boggling.

This old boat-owners adage come to mind:  "The two happiest days in a person's life are when they buy a boat and when they sell it."'

TRUTH!  And another truth...I love being married to a boat mechanic!  The Bennies are plenty!!

Hey, good for them.    Well, a yacht can certainly give people privacy and allow them to decompress from a demanding business and career.

Personally, I find being out on the water (or next to it) to be very soothing.

Keep in mind that whenever a wealthy person buys something extravagant, many people get a paycheck.  It might be in the manufacture of the extravagance, or crew, or maintenance ... or whatever.

Many years ago, Aaron Spelling, the mega TV producer, justified his mansion.  He said he never goes anywhere because he is constantly working and can't make time for even a short vacation, so he has a big home which is his "vacation".   He loved his home and the fact that he could enjoy it every day.

IMO, more jobs are created with "things" than if the cash was just sitting in a mutual fund.

JMO, of course.

I can't swim and I can't fly, so my interest in any boat or plane?  No thanks, he can "sail away", or! "Off he goes into the wild blue yonder".

@Desertdi  can I borrow the plain yellow one? At lease I won't have to go on the ocean. I'll put it in my tub.
