We recently had a discussion here on how remote Roswell, NM, is. It's out in the middle of nowhere on the high plains. Well, today a bear wandered into town. It is at least 70 miles to the nearest bear habitat so he had to have come a long way. A pack of dogs was chasing him but NM Wildlife showed up and darted the poor thing and hauled him back home.
He is probably a victim of the drought and I imagine we'll see a lot more of them before summer is over. There has been no rain so the plants and berries bears eat are scarce. It won't be long until the little snowpack is gone and there will be no drinking water for bears unless they can find a stock tank. A couple years ago one wandered into my town, a suburb of Albuquerque. I don't know how he got so far into town, but he approached the entrance of a medical clinic, the automatic doors politely opened for him and he cleared out the lobby. You never saw walkers and canes move so fast!
