Americans donate hundreds of millions of dollars each year to the charity, expecting their money will help some of the 52,000 wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But CBS News found Wounded Warrior Project spends 40 to 50 percent on overhead, including extravagant parties. Other veterans charities have overhead costs of 10 to 15 percent.
Wounded Warrior Project's Chief Executive Officer, Steven Nardizzi, and Chief Operating Officer, Al Giordano, were fired after a meeting Thursday afternoon in New York.
It's a shame when you donate to a charity you believe is doing good things for the intended.

It's a shame to hear anyone would be spending money intended for veterans on themselves. I hope they can rebuild the confidence of their donors and get new leadership.

Thank you for the post. I am glad the greed was stopped. It is a shame that all that overhead and parties ( 40%-50%) was misused. Think how many vets and families could have had a better quality of life.

I only give to the charities I know. It's great something good may come from the firing.

I wonder if they would have been fired if CBS News hadn't embarassed the organization. Probably not - certainly others in the organization knew what was going on. They ought to clean house.

Unless this group cleans up its act and starts putting donations where they were intended, I wouldn't give them a penny. They also need a woman or two on their board.

Until the CBS show I don't believe the general public had any idea of how the WWP execs were spending the money. Employees and former employees did but the media hadn't focussed their attention on what was being said-until CBS News.

I always thought highly of this charity organization until I read awhile back how much money is not spent on the veterans. It's sad because our veterans have given so much and deserve to be taken care of.
