Re: Would you take this risk to save quite a bit of money?

I would guess the answer to this question is really dependant on your financial position.  There are many incone dependant "discounts" available to those who cannot afford medical treatments, prescriptions, food, housing  etc.  All require proof of income and financial information in varying degrees.  Those who are refusing to provide this type of information are able to afford to do so.

To answer the question.....yes I would if I could not afford the price and needed the test to get relief.

This is a no-brainer for me. I would never even consider handing over personal info like that. Who is encouraging you to do this? That would be a red flag for me.

@occasionalrain @Assets are not included and the lab company has a chart of qualifying income.

@GenXmuse @What would you do if there was only one way to arrive at a diagnosis when the previous methods have led up to a few possibilities, but you must know EXACTLY which diagnosis in order to pursue the correct treatment.

Re: Would you take this risk to save quite a bit of money?

How specifically can they guarantee your tax information is safe? If they don't even have a page on their website explaining it, that indicates they don't take security very seriously.

Places like diagnostic clinics are constantly bombarded by hackers because they are easy targets with extremely juicy personal data.. Many of these places have Password1234 or OpenSesame as their login passwords, for example. Entire hospital systems have been taken offline by ransomware, so even large health institutions are not completely secure. A small clinic or lab is often even less so.

I'd contact them and request another method to get the discount. If they use a secure third party system that is well known, that might be a little less dicey. But some doctor sitting around with my tax info in an Excel spreadsheet on SharePoint? Absolutely not.

@x Hedge @Yes, and they are not the only company with assistance programs that require this type of proof.

@Porcelain @I was going to do this. We often think alike. I just don't feel comfortable handing over my income tax form.

Re: Would you take this risk to save quite a bit of money?

I was reading the original post, if a doctor did all that testing and still couldn't figure out what was wrong I'd find another doctor rather than spend $750. for some other test.

The ridiculous part of this is that your tax return doesn't show your financial ability to pay unless your young. I know older people who show a very small income on their tax returns but they have money in the bank, and in this scenario people could have a lot of money in the bank.

I doubt I'd qualify for a discount so I'd just pay it.
