@Iwantcoffee Not so sure I trust the lab for anything yet. I'm researching this.

Re: Would you take this risk to save quite a bit of money?

Mindy, I do know that some pharmaceutical assistance programs do require submission of income tax returns.  It just depends on the mission of the assistance.  Some require at least a W-2 with the requirement that if the person is self-employed that they submit income tax returns.  Others just require submission of information, it just depends on the company and their mission statement for assistance.

But, I guess the one thing I would think you would want to come to terms with first is just how much is the result of this specific test going to offer in terms of changing your treatment plan, taking pharmacological agents, etc. based on the results.

If that information is essential in something that is so new and has the greatest potential to drastically changing your quality of life and improvement of symptoms because things can only be ordered based on the results of this test, then I would think there would be a high priority on trying to submit information in order to be able to financially afford the test.

But if having the information is only helpful with no real substantive  reassurance that there will be a significant change in your treatment plan along with resolving symptoms, then you might consider not submitting forms or paying for the test.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

I would guess the answer to this question is really dependant on your financial position.  There are many incone dependant "discounts" available to those who cannot afford medical treatments, prescriptions, food, housing  etc.  All require proof of income and financial information in varying degrees.  Those who are refusing to provide this type of information are able to afford to do so.

To answer the question.....yes I would if I could not afford the price and needed the test to get relief.

@CrazyDaisy   You cannot possibly know the reason people said NO unless they stated the reason....

Something seems off with this.

If your insurance doesn't cover this, the cost of the test is only $750.00?  Is that the only cost involved?

I can't think of any test of any significance I've had done that is that cheap.  My bloodwork for an A1C test and cholesterol test was close to $400.00.  For simple bloodwork.

To answer the question, just based on the information provided, I would pay the $750.00.

@Mindy D  I have never heard of this.  I would NEVER allow anyone other than my CPA and the IRS to look at my tax records.

You can go to the medicare.gov website and find out if the test is covered.

Is the doctor recommending you have this test done?

I provided my private insurance (which did not cover any of the cost) but my Dr's office has an agreement with the lab that the most any of their patients would pay was $145.  I just paid it.

If I did have to pay the entire cost, I'd have no issue sending them the needed info.  These labs are quite reputable.

Was it one of the labs I posted, Genova or perhaps Igenex?

These tests are SO specialty through these labs, I jumped through hoops to just even get the opportunity to have a dr sign off on them.  I FINALLY FINALLY got answers to my ills (lyme, SIBO, leaky gut) from these tests that I'd do it again and provide any information necessary to help with the costs.  Again, all reputable companies.  Igenex can be up to $5k for their more sensitive tests with all lyme co-infections included.  Genova can run high as well.  Good luck Mindy D.

Yes. Medical labs are bound by HIPAA and must have exceptional data security to be accredited. Some of you watch too much tv.
