Re: Would you open the envelope???

Very thought provoking question.

I don't think that I would want to know -

As the gospel song goes,

I don't worry about tomorrow,

I just live from day to day .....

My husband has been through an awful lot the past ten years, and has handled it all with strength, grace and dignity - much more than I ever could have.

At an annual ultrasound follow-up last fall, his vascular surgeon told him, "You know how much I love you, Butch, so I would never lie to you.  There is nothing more that I can do for you but tell you to go home and be as happy as possible".

Death is inevitable and God will call us home when our time on Earth is done.  The secret to is leave a life well lived and people well loved.

Why would it take to know your day and time of death to live your lilfe in the here and now??

It shouldn't take knowing to have a change of heart, to be generous, to continue to work, eat. live, enjoy a concert, etc.

Some people would take negative advantages against other people; some would end up living for the day of death instead of living in the here and now.

I've seen this question through the years and it always follows with bravado answers which, in reality, would not be so brave should one know when one is to die.

It is easy to say "yes" but would you in reality?  Questions such as this generate thoughts for discussion but in reality?  A very different set of emotions would most likely come into play.

For me?  I would not open the envlope.  And I would really be ticked off if one was offered.

Re: Would you open the envelope???

I could not ignore that envelope, of course I would open it.  Knowledge is not something I'm averse to.  The idea there is a man or a being in the sky holding my pull date is nonsense, imo of course.  But the envelope idea is also nonsense.

I being of a certain age am very aware I have fewer days remaining.  In a sense, I've already opened that envelope -- the writing is smudged but the ink is undeniable.

Re: Would you open the envelope???

The time, place & manner of my death is totally up to the sovereignty of God.  He is perfect; his timing is perfect.  I will die at the perfect time whether it is today or 20 or 30 years from now.  Whenever that day comes, I will be absent from this body & face-to-face with my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ for all eternity.

There's only one person who could actually hand you an envelope like that in real life: An extremely confident and punctual hitman. Woman Frustrated

Re: Would you open the envelope???

I believe we all have a destiny in life but I don't believe that every death is assigned by the Universe.

I believe that there are situations where another person interferes with the destiny of another person and as such the Universe's plan has been altered.

Who is to say that a person who has had his/her life snuffed out by another had his/her death assigned?  I believe the person who did that altered a divine plan, if you will.

This questions always ventures into a religious territory and belief systems, no matter which one, are fine.

Again I say those who would open the envelope in a discussion may not always be so willing in real life.

NO, I would not.   I am content to live my life and be happy, and leave those details in the hands of my Creator.
