She took the day off yesterday, but she's back banging today. However it sounds a little more distant, like it's not my bedroom wall anymore (at least not today). I think she is putting up pictures on another wall or in another room.
I know some of you are curious, so I will update when it has stopped for at least a week.

This. Take an opportunity to have a friendly "get-acquainted" visit with your new neighbor, and mention the banging as something you're hearing that you don't know the source of and that may be an annoyance for her, too. And it might! Either way, she'll be aware that you're being bothered by the noise without you accusing her or having any sort of unpleasant confrontation.

OMG, you won't believe this! I heard a knocking at my door about an hour ago, looked through my peephole and didn't see anyone, so I just ignored it. Just now I opened my door and saw three pieces of paper sitting on my shelf. They were put there by the woman next door. One was a letter to her from Management saying they had received complaints about noise emanating from her apartment (hammering), and advising her if she did not cease she would be subject to eviction. The next page was the portion of our leases regarding disturbance of other tenants, and the third page was a letter to Management by this woman denying she is causing any disturbance, that she is hanging pictures (I had it right) and was trying to do it between 8 AM and that she goes to bed at 10 PM. She goes on to say she is not disturbing anyone, and is leaving a copy of these letters on everyone's shelf who she thinks might have done the complaining. Her tone is very obnoxious . . . I sure am glad I didn't go over there.
I wrote across the top of her letter advising her that I did not complain about her, signed my name and apartment number. I then put it back on her shelf. I don't know if this will be the end of it or not. So obviously others did complain and I'm now wondering who it was!
Ahh, the mystery!!
Oh, and she's still hammering, back on my bedroom wall now. I wonder if she already saw my response and is "showing me who's boss?" This might become scary, as apparently she does not acknowledge that she's doing anything wrong. Our Building Manager is no one to fool with, she's playing with fire if whoever did complain is also still hearing the banging and tells the Manager. And if she is evicted she will probably have to pay for all those hundreds of holes in the walls!

Yes, we all have a little shelf for our convenience. It's a new building with apparently a new idea to you!

This woman must have A LOT OF PICTURES to hang! Kind of odd, though, because most apartment buildings won't allow tenants to hammer nails, they make you use those adhesive things. Anyway, sounds like she's going to be a PITA.

Aw, Ford. You have the patience of a saint. Your neighbor must have quite the art collection, and evidently covers the walls "salon style," from floor to ceiling.
In all the years I lived in rental apartments, management always wanted us to let them know of problems so they could attend to them rather than having direct conflicts with fellow tenants -- keeps the peace a wee bit more. But there's no perfect solution. Don't forget, though, that you have your rights as an established, paying tenant, and you deserve peace and quiet.

I'm not getting into it with her, she's a lot bigger than me (she's still hammering). One push and she could break my back. The three women who preceded her were so sweet. Two of them died and one moved away . . . sure is a bad luck apartment.
BTW, the apartment number is 213 . . . if you believe in that stuff!
