Does she have a treadmill or other exercise machine that backs up to that wall?

oh good grief, what could possibly be banging all day long? Perhaps it's the pipes in the building. Water pipes can bang from steam heaters. If the noise is going on for hours and hours I think I'd call the apartment manager first, have them come over and listen and they can determine what is causing it.

Maybe you could start banging on your wall when it starts again and see if she gets the message. What could she be doing for two hours?
Alternatively, you could bring her a small gift and ask her whether she's settled in and slip in a question about whether she's renovating. If she likes you, she might be more considerate or at least more receptive to a friendly complaint.

Whatever it is, if it continues she may ruin a part of the wall.

Do you think she hears your tv or something and she's banging to you?

I would definitely want them to tell me. And BTW, I watch 80% of TV with closed captioning. I have gotten very used to it and don't mind it at all.

It may not be hammering. Might be some other sound like a bureau hitting the wall when a drawer is opened/closed. I would certainly ask the new neighbor about it as he/she is probably not aware the noise disturbs you.
If you are nervous about this, just compose a letter and slip it under the door. Keep the tone friendly and non-confrontational and ask them to call you with any questions. If you don't address the problem it won't get resolved.

I would go over there & tell her she is disturbing you. I would never live in an apartment or condo because you never know who is on the other side of the wall or who will move in.
