We  do not have central air, but with a wall unit we manage to keep our mail level comfortable.  Upstairs, the way the house is designed we would need several outdoor mini split units for cooling.

I was wondering if a dehumidifier in the hallway upstairs would cool that area as well as the adjacent bedroom?

@Mom2Dogs.  A dehumidifier only removes moisture from the air, it doesn't cool.

@Kachina624   I agree but I thought if the air was not so humid it would be more tolerable.

The answer to your specific question is no; cool air is not associated with a dehumidifier.

I cool my house with a central evaporative cooler which puts humidity INTO the house.   Only used in dry climates.

Yes, a dehumidifier will make it feel cooler although the temperature will remain the same. Drier hot air feels cooler than humid hot air.

The 'heat index' is based on a calculation using the humidity plus the temperature to give you a reading of how hot it feels.

I would think a dehumidifier would make the heat more tolerable since it would not also be humid. Put a bowl of ice in front of a fan that is facing you. Or wipe down limbs with wet washcloth while sitting in front of fan. Cools the skin. Smiley Happy

@Mom2Dogs  You may want to try a large home air purifier.  I have one in my family room and it blows cool air while purifying the air.  It has really helped with my allergies as well.  I purchased a large one that sits on the floor and it has various fan controls and a light indicator when to clean the filter. The brand is a Hunter Console multi-room air purifier.  I have been very pleased with it. I purchased it from the Q.

Just buy a good, big fan for air movement.  Circulating air always feels cooler even if the temp stays the same, but you don't need the purifier function.

We have a small ceiling fan in the hallway.
