@songbird

I have been following the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development in South Africa.

They post lots of videos on the herd and individual elephants.

Watching them is so wonderful.

My dream is being able to donate to all groups helping these wonderful creatures.  The world has not been kind to them.

I love elephants, I can't look at them without tears welling up. It's an emotional connection.

There are alot of great charities doing alot. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is a good one.

Happy Elephant Day.  😍

@MoJoV

Yes, I cry each time I watch a video.

I mourn the cruelty they have suffered, but rejoice the groups/people that help.  They are very devloted, caring people.

One video showed a caregiver settling in a little orphan for the night, and he was singing to her!  Don't you know that little elephant was snoring in no time.  It made me very emotional.

I have to limit my viewing with any of the groups to keep my sanity.

We adore them!   Such a magnificent animal.  My sister worked for the zoo for 25 years in our little state of RI (Roger Williams Park Zoo) and she just loved those elephants.  We would always spend time watching them, especially when our kids were young.  Years ago QVC had an elephant diamonique bracelet that I purchased and I bought my sister the matching ring Smiley Happy

Thanks @songbird , this made me smile.

Wonderful!  Heart

Every day should be a day for animals.

I have that show with  Cher and the elephants on one of my Tivos.  I began watching it, shortly after I recorded it, but I had to stop because it started out showing some horrors that I couldn't handle.  I've kept it in my 'deleted' folder hoping I can go back to it but when I see awful things happening to animals my heart breaks and I just can't.

@chickenbutt  Only 43 states in the U.S. makes it legal for trophy hunters.  Only 3 countries in Africa ban trophy hunting.  These are the big 5 (Lions, Rhinos, Leopard,Elephants and Cape Buffalo.  The Cape Buffalo is the most dangerous of the 5.  Some hunters pay 6 figure payments to do this.  And of course, countries there (some are still corrupted) will not say no. It is legal.  In fact, the ban on Elephants were lifted in Botswana in 2019. The three countries that ban trophy hunters are Kenya, Malawi & Costa Rica,  They are among the least corrupt in Africa.  Twitter has stared to reveal names and addresses of trophy hunters.  I don't even know if that's legal.  Ironically the most dangerous land animal in world (the Hippo) is rarely if ever hunted.  They kill about 3,000 people per year.
