I've had many jobs and every single one of them required me having to sweep the floor/clean my work station/empty heavy cans of purged plastic used to insulate telephone wire, and yes even the trash we accumulated during our work shift.

Is it asking too much of you? It is YOUR garbage after all. They could have given you a pink slip...be happy it is just your garbage they want removed from the premises!

I was a manager of an office and I vacuumed, dumped trash, washed the entry glass doors and handles and wiped down surface areas. I'd do it either in the AM or after everyone left, I sorta enjoyed it.

The place I retired from moved to this process. My new job has this process as well. I feel badly for the maintenance folks who are losing jobs. However, we aren't too good to carry out this simple task. Some people complain like crazy. One psychology instructor let her trash can overflow in protest. Waaaaaaaaaaa. Way to lead the college kids, lady.

That's one of her nicer comments.

Thank you all for your responses.

I didn't say it was a "big deal," I was just inquiring. I've never had this experience, as I said. Being thankful for the job or the other option being a pink slip has nothing to do with my question. No, it's not asking too much -- didn't say that either.

The only concern I would have is that the large waste receptacles are located in the center of the office. Being such a large office of about 200 to 250 employees, my concern might be the odor is all. I don't know how many times a week those receptacles will be emptied. Also we've had the issue with mice in the past.

This would not bother me or the owner of the company. Lots of things have changes in 40+ Years.
