@onionsoup wrote:@chickenbuttJust noticed and read your post. Thank you for the invaluable information because one never really knows what their future holds and if they'll need to seek this out too.
Thanks!
I would hope that nobody takes my posts as arguing or anything like that, including the OP. I appreciate hearing thoughts and I enjoy sharing my experiences, too.
They first opened the dispensaries last July1 and it actually took me until Dec 7 to go to one. Not really for much of any reason than I wanted to wait until there weren't crowds (I don't like crowds EVER!) and then I broke my arm badly so I couldn't drive anyway, and the next thing I knew it was Dec and I really wanted to check it out.
There are such strict laws around it and it's a very sophisticated operation. You first walk into the first door and there are windows (like bank teller type windows). You go to one and give them your ID. You MUST do this to show your age and where you live. Then they give it back and tell you go to through another door, then a person meets you and takes you through ANOTHER door and you are in the dispensary and they give you a representative to help you.
They were very nice so it's not even like if you don't have a medical card they would treat you differently. They were really awesome, kind, and helpful!
How do they know what and how much to give to you when it's medical MJ?
That I don't know, because I don't have a medical card. I just purchased it sans med card, as I don't have medical care anyway, outside of the orthopaedic care I had during my broken arm situation.
I imagine the card just lets you in, or especially did so before recreational became legal. Then you decide what and how much you wish to purchase. It's not like a pharmacy, in that regard.
Thanks @chickenbutt
Maybe it's trial and error for the most part. Probably beats opiods, though.

@chickenbutt, I'm happy that you're finding some relief with mmj and a nice buzz as well. It's people like you I considered when I voted for prop 64 in 2016.
May be hard for some to imagine but I guess I left my Reefer Madness at the door that day. ![]()

Yeah, maybe a little of 'trial and error' for sure. But the cool thing is that they have the numbers on the different varieties that show percentages of THC and a bunch of other stuff.
It comes in packets that have a label on the front with all the info, including any warning type stuff, such as the normal 'keep away from children' and stuff about taking it out of the state might not be legal, etc.
But they seem to know what they are talking about so if somebody has a very specific need they can gear you toward what might be best for your situation.

Ha!
Love it.
So many things that I, or you, or anybody, might not want to do but I don't feel like we have the right to withhold it from everybody.
I was actually surprised that my state legalized weed for recreational, beyond the medical use designation. I did vote for it, but was still surprised.

@CrazyDaisy, please don't even get me started on this. We had a young mother killed in her own home by a girl who was texting and driving. The girl lost control, went off the road and went into the home with her vehicle, landing on top of a mother who was holding her baby. The mother died and the baby survived but suffered severe burns.
The girl was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in jail. The judge just let her out after 6 months!!!!!!! Apparently when he sentenced her he told her that if she kept her nose clean while in prison and didn't get into any trouble, he would let her go after 6 months. She stayed clean and he felt he needed to keep his promise.
People around here are outraged.
Saw that on tbe news, all of those letters from the community apparently did nothing to changevthevjudges mind.

That's what I've heard. I assume some must have training in basic How To Dispense. I've seen numerous interviews with owners on TV, they seem pretty well versed.
There's a medical MJ store coming in SF, owned by the former Mayor of Oakland and her husband, a doctor.

I also think it's a little more complicated than "Who cares, people have been high on the job for years" or conversely "Look out, pot's legal, the sky is falling!" A person can be concerned without being a so-called professional pearl clutcher, and one of the concerns is that with legalization comes gray areas that didn't exist before.
For one thing, people keep talking about drug testing as though it's simple, when with leagliaztion that's no longer true. Alcohol and mj are not the same when it comes to how we test to determine whether a person is under the influence. Alcohol is pretty simple--a urine test, blood test, or blow into the breathalyzer. BAC too high? You're considered to be under the influence.
Not so with mj which lingers in the fat cells for days, even weeks, rather than being eliminated within hours like alcohol. And since it's now legal how would an employer prove you went out at lunch and smoked a joint in the parking lot when you swear the last time you did that was at a party last weekend? And since automatic termination is no longer applicable in many cases it's a case of your word against theirs. That's not really a good thing for employers.
That applies to drivers who share the road with you and your loved ones as well. So here we are in CA, with no reliable way to determine legal impairment, we plan to open hundreds, if not thousands, of dispensaries. As I said earlier, I voted for legalization, and I'm far from a professional worrier, but I do wonder if maybe we didn't put the cart before the horse in terms of how to we intend to hold people accountable when the situation presents itself. Hopefully, things will work out, because if they don't, I'm partially responsible. And frankly, that does concern me.
As for driving and MJ...it depends on what state you live in. Some states (mine) are no tolerance. And others are by nanograms of thc in a blood test. So if you are a regular user, your reading would naturally be higher from tolerance.
I agree, they have no way to know when you smoked today. last week or 2 weeks ago, unless your car smells like you hit a skunk.

Yeah, they really did seem to have a good knowledge base. I really don't do b.s. and I'm pretty good at telling when somebody is handing me bs. ![]()
I was able to check out a lot of stuff, ask questions, and never felt rushed or that they were condescending to me, one tiny bit.
