She has an hour commute each way. Working from home saved a lot of gas money. No lunches out and saved on clothes. Instead of getting home at 6 at night or later if a lot of traffic, She came downstairs at 5:01 and was done.
She misses it.
@CrazyKittyLvr2 ...I feel for your daughter, she got a taste of not having that awful commute, I have no doubt it is going to bother her for quite some time to come.

I think that is wonderful! A smart move.
I live in Florida and only worked from home for two months. I have not felt safe going to work a single day since going back and the numbers here keep increasing. I don’t know why we were told to go back to the office (well, the governor is of the opinion all is well in Florida) when we can work as well and be safer at home.
All of the scientific experts state things are going to get a lot worse everywhere. Our country is not doing anything to help make things better. At this rate, I would be surprised if your DH doesn’t get another extension to continue working from home even after January.
Be sure to vote in November!

We're retired so work is not an issue....
However my neighbor who was working from home just got a notice from her enployer that she is now laid off. In addition, they did something to change her severance so if she had gotten laid off last month she would have gotten a larger severnce package.
She's very worried.

Nearly all Federal workers work from home now. My husband started working at home before the pandemic. 3 times a week. Now it's 5 days a week. Even after the pandemic, I think Federal workers will be working from home for good.
I'll still be working form home indefinitely, but my job requires some hands on work at the university library too. I'll be working once or twice a week in the afternoons on campus. The book situation is a real mess. Has to be straighten out. We've always worked away from the public, so this won't be a big change. Our office was always isolated from the students. My mornings will be the same as usual, working from home for research. The change will start starting at the beginning of the Fall Semester.

I've been 100% teleworking since mid-March. We are told in our weekly meetings that there is no timetable given for returning to the office. However, just last week we received mandatory precautionary guidelines to follow once we enter the buildings. But still, no date.
I really don't know how this will work in our near future. My office building is a tall high-rise, with attached garages, and retail stores accessible through walk-ways. We're talking thousands of people.
I'm not comfortable even thinking about returning any time soon.

I have been working from home since mid March as well, and as of lately our company plans to start bringing people back into he office sometime in August, they plan on 3 phases, so the last phase could be September which is the phase I think I would be in.
I am ok with that though, at first I didn;t care for working from home, but now I have gotten used to it.
My daughter on the other hand has been told they are not coming back into her office until Jan 2021....
I think a lot of places are bracing for what they call the next round of this which they think could be during flu season, which is late late fall, early winter......I certainly hope not!

I was just curious if the owner of these businesses still has to pay for his lease if he doesn't own the building. I would imagine so...one never knows. I've never been in a situation like that.

I work in a public school district. I am a speech language pathologist and my job is to evaluate preschool students to determine if they are eligible for special education services. Schools shut down for two weeks in March then we went to on line education. I did some evaluations virtually but also took on some of my co-worker's caseloads and treated students as well. Starting this summer we have been able to conduct in person evaluations with safety precautions in place. We are waiting for our governor to decide if schools will be open, virtual or a hybrid in the fall. My school district has already pushed back the first day of school since the governor has not made a decision - this will give them more time to prepare whatever his decision.

January is the new rumor by me too.
Technically, we were supposed to go back in August. But the larger office that we are taking cues from decided the amount of people going in was so small that they were closing back down and would re-evaluate in the “fall”. So, my smaller office is now saying after Labor Day, but we know they won’t open before the other office. My coworker has it on good account that they are looking at January now for the big office.
If that’s the case, my coworker said we may try to find an office to work out of and go in every other day. I’m pretty much doing most of the work and some basic review is not getting done. We are a little bummed that we can’t go in for longer periods of time and just stay on our end of the office. (I actually run into the office once a week to drop off things and pick up mail - it’s a little uncomfortable if I’m caught as the office is used at this time solely by the owner.). But I miss my two big computer screens! I’m more efficient (and even more so when I don’t feel like I’m the only person doing any work - which I’m not, but it feels like it!)
The same with me. It does not bother me to go into the office, because there may be only 1-3 people running in like me for a few hours to do a few things. I miss my monitors and my printer. Working on a 15 inch laptop at home is not the same as my office.

I feel the same way! Would give anything to have my work station back, but I'm in California, so...not likely anytime soon.
