Congrats guys. Woman Sad America just drew the pandemic game card marked: "Massive safety noncompliance! Move back one Phase." Because people (not the posters here) keep throwing meltdowns and refuse to wear their masks. They don't care if it means others get laid off. The economy won't recover until the people do. So we will play this stupid game until everyone starts following the rules to the phases.

@Porcelain, hmm. That does not sound promising. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'd say more, but I won't.

I'm more optimistic. Once the maskless lone rangers get ostracized by people they personally respect for not complying, and once several of them get hefty fines, they'll fall in line. Many are just acting up because they think there are no consequences to them personally. Economic interests will soon become more pressing than some individual's desire to run around without their underwear and mask on. They can still go comando anyways, as long as they mask up.

Re: Workers Getting Laid Off for a Second Time (These Are Truly Difficult Times)

We have a large healthcare system here, hospital and many doctors offices, that is extending furloughs or more likely just layng off tons of people. Truly stunnoing that during a pandemic the medical places are going broke. Also sad because outside of government jobs this probably the only booming jobs area we had.

@Porcelain, I think that it will take more than a come-to-reckoning moment, although I'd love to see that. Primarily, though, I think it's going to depend upon the will to go back, maybe even to square one, regarding restrictions.

I've always thought that so many states were premature, not even meeting the mandates for opening. That's where I think that this all went wrong, plus other factors of course.

But that scares me as well because if we're waiting for a miracle drug that would be widely available and affordable or a vaccine, who knows?

There's a lot of speculation employers will cut costs and lay people off blaming the pandemic. Meantime, people are postponing non-essential visits.

When the hiring begins again, you can rest assured they will hire younger and less experienced workers, paying less with few, if any benefits or job security.

Well, I'll just have to sit on my paws right now.

Re: Workers Getting Laid Off for a Second Time (These Are Truly Difficult Times)

Close friend of ours works in a casino in our state. He and others were called back on 6/15. Employees are quiting right and left (multiple reasons). Patrons are NOT showing up in the numbers they thought would flock in. It's been 2 weeks and whispers of a 2nd shutdown are already starting among the upper ranks. Because of the position our friend holds, he's privy to the information before it hits the floor and is telling everyone he knows: SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Yes, indeed.

If she was working only for cash or tips, she would not qualify.
