It is better to call 9-1-1 first and even text to 9-1-1.  You can also text to a loved one.

If there is no cell service, you would not be able to change your voicemail anyway.

Rescue experts recommend going the 9-1-1 route.

@Toots711

changing voicemail to messages: is that as simple as using the green "messages" icon ?

I searched voice mail but found nothing on my iPhone that gave me the questions you noted.  Might come in very handy to folks to know how to access.....

If I'm lost or broken down, I'm going to call someone. I'm not going to wait for someone to call me and hear my voice mail

Thanks for the tip.  I don't see why I wouldn't hedge my bets and call 911 AND change my voicemail message.

(thread title)

Advice to some are suggestions to others. Anyone living in a cold weather part of the country!  Best to add a survival kit, as some think their All-Wheel-Drive vehicles can't get stuck! My advice? That's a bunch of "who shot me(john)". *Judge Judy Sheindlin*
