for failing to pay fines for her kids' school truancy, died in her cell. She was 55. She's got 7 kids- 4 of them still at home.
Berks County in PA instituted new fines for parents who failed to control their children's truancy. Eileen DeNino owed $2,000.

Did they disclose the cause of death?

Whoa!! She died in her cell? What did she die of?

How horrible.

Unknown right now. I guess my reason for posting this is should parents be jailed because of their kids' truancy? Evidently, this new rule has decreased truancy by 30%....

If she died of natural causes in jail that's unfortunate, but I assume the laws for truancy for that county are clear.

I would think bringing CPS into the issue would be more appropriate than jail. How terrible. My guess is they will be rethinking this law/policy now.

I do not think anyone could come to a conclusion of what really happened until ALL the facts are put out.
