Wolves Are Big...But So Are Bald Eagles.

[ Edited ]

Who won?  The Bald Eagle or the Gray Wolf?

Gray wolf - up to 3 feet at the shoulder, 3-5 feet long, up to 2 foot tail - 5-7 feet long.  Big canines.

Bald Eagle - Up to 3 1/2 feet long from head to tip of tail, 6-8 foot wingspan.  2 inch very sharp talons.  Larger size in Northern US states, Alaska, and Canada..  Eagles spread their wings to make themselves appear larger...and as we see from the photos, they don't back down.

Fear makes the wolf appear bigger.....this eagle has no fear.  A wonderful lesson played out in nature.

What an incredible picture!

If the eagle can fly, i would think he would.

Might be protecting a nest or something like that (?).  Smiley Happy

It looks like they're both after the same prey because the snow looks dirtied.

You'd think the wolf would go after the eagle, but looking at the eagle's beak---maybe a bad idea.  Probably just as nasty as a wolve's teeth.

That wolf looks a bit scrawny and almost like the eagle could take off with it in it's talons.

Re: Wolves Are Big...But So Are Bald Eagles.

Wolves hunt in packs.  Coyotes hunt alone, although they do have family packs.

I believe this is a coyote-the snout is longer and the ears, while pointed back in an agressive stand, are also longer.

This is a trail cam and it is unclear what happened after the animal backed away from the eagle.  They were fighting over carrion.

It is possible the eagle didn't win in the end.  Perhaps making a stand because a nest was nearby.

Either way, nature pictures are fascinating.

Notice how the eagle puff himselfup and spreads his wings outward to make himself appear larger to the wolf. Great adaptation eagles use when threatened.
