@Mermaid22 ... Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try later today when we go out! I know to keep that inside liner away from the zipper, but even that doesn't always help. It's just a matter of getting the darn thing started at the bottom of the zipper.

I used to rub soap on zippers that stuck and it always worked well.  However, it sounds like the OP needs to be more careful to make certain the two bases are right together and the handles are facing down - then get the end of the zipper all the way thru before she starts tugging to pull it up. An extra few seconds to be sure it is correct can make a world of difference.

@Mermaid22... My daughter was trying on a coat (to purchase) at LLBean and had the same issue as you ... the zipper kept getting caught. The saleslady saw her struggling and came over and showed her the same technique. She was finally able to get it zipped, purchased the coat and two winters later ... no problems!!

@Moonchilde ... Our winter coats are all metal zippers. I don't think they would put a plastic zipper in a very heavy winter coat. Those darn plastic zippers always split down the middle and become unzipped.

@Yardlie, not everyone lives in snow country ;-) or has a "heavy" winter jacket or coat. It gets below freezing where I live, and windy with that, but daytime winter temps are in the high 40s to 50s. We don't need blizzard-worthy coats, it would be overkill, but we need considerably more than a windbreaker. Still, unless we use a specialty store like LL Bean, REI, etc, the coats in the ordinary stores are not "heavy" coats.

I just had to fix my husband's "shoveling jacket" this morning.  He must have had to take it off over his head last time he wore it.  It had a bunch of material stuck in it, but I was finally able to yank it out.  He was ready to try to wear one of my jackets lol
