It was about this lady who leaves CA, she was a police officer or something. She moves back east after joining a detective agency under a different name. she has a small daughter that she adopted. I believe they were hiding/running from the father who is in the mob and was just released from prison?

This agency is started by a man who lost his wife and son after a car accident. they actually never found the car but she simply disappeared on her way home. They work out of his huge home, he has a cook/housekeeper that always makes them goodies and she collects coffee mugs. His mission is to help people solve crimes that the police have given up on. They have a website and they choose from entries on the site.

the premise of this book, a guy who restores cars, hires the agency to help find his nieces killer (I think) can't remember that part just all the other, and it sounded like it would be a series
