Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

People who believe negative publicity can be good are thinking back to a different era.

Take a minute or two to "rethink" that @Etoile308 .  Much of the negative publicity coming out of the entertainment industry is for someone to get their pockets lined.  This is especially true since the Kardashians came into our lives.

Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

Too many inconsistencies to say this is was not planned:

Reports that he was asked to leave and refused!  Really?  C'mon.....

Reports that say he was never asked to leave

Reports that say Chris Rock didn't want the police called or to press charges against him

Reports that Chris said nothing at all

Reports that Jada and the audience was laughing at all of them (even as Will went up to the stage).  That was one I saw with my own eyes.

Reports of Will laughing during and after the slap (saw that with my own eyes)

Reports that he resigned from his position at the Academy.  This is even all the better, as if any one of us can prove that he was ever an Academcy member.  We have no way to verify what is said in the media.

He and Jada changed clothes and went to the Vanity Fair After Party

He took pictures of him pointing at his Oscar on the red Carpet

Will has never been a big fan of the Academy because he feels that so many times he's been snubbed from receiving his just due.  He boycotted the awards and the institution in 2015, along with Jada.  He boycotts, but then at some point he becomes a member?  Fast turn around, huh?

Oscars need viewership.  Only a little over 10MM views worldwide is bad.  Maybe they said "well go ahead and give you an award now" if you do something for us that's get us some buzz.

The Oscars haven't been talked about for two weeks long after airing EVER.  I just see things differently, I suppose.  Someone's palms have been greased one way or another.

Chris Rock refuses to discuss it at his sold out shows.  There are reports that people have chanted and given him a standing ovation but he won't take the bait to talk bad about Will Smith.

I did the math and it doesn't add up in "my" mind.

Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

How they would accomplish this I don't know, but he should have been banned from being nominated/receiving an award also.

Additionally, "the Academy" should have had a policy for removing disruptive/dangerous people in place way before this incident.  He should have been shown the door.  Period.

I guess his UPS man will be his next Oscar presenter.

@Kachina624 No, he'll probably have to go to a pickup point to get it, or it will get sent back. . . Woman Wink

Shoekitty said, I thought that to.  Like what if someone had a gun?.  But then I remembered that everything is locked down before awards.  Highland and Hollywood blvd, clear to Hollywood Bowl is locked down. You need a pass to get through.  Even the Lowes hotel,( which used to be The renaissance) is right in the same center as the theater, is sold out.  No one can book the rooms.  but certain guests. I know, I have tried.  I was told due to security the rooms are blocked out.  Only go to certain guest.  Not us folk, lol. You go though police check if you are lucky to get room. Every guest at Academy goes through security, and only those invited to awards can go.  Then they are checked out weeks before awards.  It is tight.  So that brings us to this, how can someon walk up on stage just like that?  I know that is being put onto the drawing board as I speak. Next year will be different. I have said this before, I have family in the business.  Many work behind scenes, but my granddaughter has had a few film roles.  Nothing big, believe me.  But one family member has worked for a studio in the past, before he moved up..where he did security for a couple stars at awards as side jobs.  . It is tough there.  But you are so right, they need an emergency plan to get the disrupter before all this happens.

Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

So you can walk up on stage during a live performance and smack someone on the face and you aren't asked to leave and you can keep your award?  Really?  What a joke. What a wonderful message that sends. . .

Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

Wow! I am somewhat surprised at the time it took to enforce this action, and am deeply saddened for everyone involved.😔 It was a terrible act of aggression; the true meaning of which is only known by Will. A few infamous seconds will likely cause him a lifetime of grief. As much as I was a huge fan of his when I was younger, I believe this decision is just.

Unfortunately, the budding careers of his children will likely be affected for some time as well.😐

Re: Will Smith banned from Academy Awards

As I understand it, the award can't be taken away because it was voted on, it can't be changed. Although, you think it could.  I think resigning from Academy, and banned for 10 years is ample punishment after the fact. Academy membership and what goes with it is highly revered and treasured.  It has perks and credentials  members work for years to get usually.  It is likely Wills productions will wane off for a while, his insurance will go sky high,   He is now high risk, and a pirannha for a movie set.  One production has been cancelled, a couple are now on back burner.  Lots of people lost jobs because he can't work, LOTS!  His punishment is in his head now, that is an awful thing.    Yes, a security should have stopped Will, or ANYONE trying to enter the area before stage.  I think will should have been escorted to lobby myself.  Also, one of the huge blunders the Academy made was not acknowledging the incident and  rebuking violence of any kind on stage at some point following the incident.  .  Most of the  Academy  PooBahs were in attendence scattered throughout the audience. They should have been gathered and met ASAP and made a plan.  But they didn't.  Know one.  Everything is hindsight now.  I heard they are working on plan for emergency meetings, a boundary line to stage area, and security.   I mean if Madonna, the Stones, Bob Dylan and the likes have guards and can usually keep thousands of wilds crowds off stage why can't the academy.
