Widow's Social Security Benefits?

Discussion among my neighbors, some retired, some on the verge. Say a man gets $1600.00 a month in Social Security benefits. The wife gets $800.00. If husband dies, some say window's benefits increase to $1600.00, some say no. None of us has faced this yet.
