I'd said "beats welfare and going on Medicaid" I hope they raise the pay to 10 an hr. I know of a couple of able bodied people who could work, but, know how to milk the system.

A lot of fast food workers DO get Medicaid and food stamps!
That's one of the problems with that industry.
I think that anyone who is willing and able to work 40 hours a week deserves to make enough money to be out of poverty and off SNAP and Medicaid. That's how it used to be.
Now our safety net programs allow companies to UNDERPAY workers.
Fast food is one of the toughest jobs there is...very stressful...not just whistling and laughing as they "flip burgers."
I admire your DD, Hyacinth, for sticking with it!

Why? I guess because it makes them feel superior to her. There are a lot of people that get their kicks out of making fun of others be it their jobs/looks/weight even income levels and standard of living.
I worked a restaurants for years starting at age 12, including being a car hop at a drive-in restaurant. When I was high school age the kids coming in after a football game loved to say all kinds of nasty things to me and also tried there best to see if they could "beat me out of a few bucks". Guess they thought I was dumb also, but when it came to money they either paid the full bill or answered to an on duty policeman as to "what's your problem son"?
Didn't bother me all that much as I considered the source even though I was younger than some of them. Most were driving "mommy/daddy" cars and not one they worked for and paid for themselves. How do I know? I was/am into cars and was very aware of what types of cars kids that paid for them themselves drove.
Fortunately these type of people are a minority of the ones I've met in my life and I paid no attention to them back then and have never to this day.
I am sure your daughter realizes she actually is "above" these people and sees herself as such. Anyone that says to someone working in any capacity at a restaurant of any type, obviously have never been beyond the drive-up window or sat at the tables to be waited on. These jobs are hard work now and were back in the 1950's. The difference is back then the money I made was worth much more than it is today and in my mind I was a "poor kid that just happen to make a lot of his own money", and was able to pay my way and buy my own automobiles.

People just blurt out anything and everything when they are trying to make conversation. She could also say she volunteers their in order to study the type of people that eat there for her thesis.

I agree with everything you've said, terrier. I'll add that the lousy minimum wage is why taxpayers are footing the bill for Walmart.
And congratulations to Hyacinth's daughter for her hard work under sometimes difficult situations.

That is good. She can at least think it, saying it would probably get her fired.
