Everyone is using apps....it streamlines transactions.... I just used the mobile passport app. Reentering the USA, no line, no customs form, went straight through to the customs officer with my tablet and passport....done!

SCARY!

@SharkE- it's totally secure; it is approved by Homeland Security and passport control....you pre populate your passport info when you download the app. In your home and take your own picture.  Probably more private than the kiosk.  When you enter the USA, you proceed with your physical passport as usual but customs has your data...they just scan the barcode or receipt which is only in your hands and can only be obtained if someone took your phone or tablet and you would report that and it's useless/void.  Some principle of e boarding pass on your device.

@SharkE- the e kiosks use the same principle but you actually have more control in your owns hands, rather than someone standing behind you....the receipt is meaningless to anyone unless passport control has matching data.

@SharkE- I actually have global entry but this is free.  I was testing it for my niece and it did work smoothly and you avoid lines which many object to....

Interesting exerpt from article:

Benefits of a mobile app

Although a mobile app functions a lot like a mobile website, a mobile app gives businesses the advantage of having their own corner on a customer's device. Because users have to download and install the app, businesses have more control over their presence on a device than they would with a mobile website. For instance, a mobile app can be closed or inactive, but still work in the background to send geo-targeted push notifications and gather data about customer's preferences and behaviors. Moreover, mobile apps make it easy to deploy loyalty programs and use mobile payments using a single platform. It's also much easier to access a mobile app than a mobile website โ€” all it takes is one tap, versus having to open a Web browser then type in a URL.

I figured the apps were to follow you around the web so I don't have any. Someone posted that the Q app doesnt allow you access to the boards.

As far as geo tracking, my tablet stays at home. I have a dumb phone for the road.๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: ๐Ÿ™‚Why the push to use Apps?๐Ÿ™‚

In the very near future, apps will be used as the first choice for handling all kinds of business. It will be the mode of nearly all transactions soon.

My hair stylist handles all appointments, and selection of services by an app that a lot of salons have joined. I pay her via the app and see my receipt that way as well. Uber rides, travel reservations, Starbucks, grocery shopping, ordering Take Out, paying utility bills -- I use an app for all of them. A friend of mine just "signed" the lease on his apartment using his leasing company's app.

It's not just retail, it's all forms of transactions. In fact QVC has been slow to catch on. It seems like they know it and are trying hard to push their customers there now. Calling in orders over the phone is not even an option for lots of major companies.
